About the Role:

IBTimes UK is looking for a proactive, traffic-driven Graveyard News Editor to lead our overnight editorial desk.

We're looking for an experienced editor with a strong nose for traffic who can identify stories people will actually click, read, discuss and share. You should understand what works across Reddit, Google Search, Google Discover, MSN and social media, and know that different stories and angles perform on different platforms.

This is not a passive editing role. You will be expected to actively find traffic-generating stories, develop unique angles, react quickly to breaking news, manage the editorial queue, and support both writers and copy editors throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities:

> Monitor breaking news, Google Trends, Reddit, social media and other sources for emerging and high-potential stories.
> Identify traffic-generating stories and unique angles rather than simply following what competitors are publishing.
> Understand which stories are likely to work across Reddit, MSN, Google Discover, Search and social media, and tailor angles accordingly.
> React aggressively to breaking and developing news, quickly assigning the strongest angles to writers.
> Maintain and continuously adjust the editorial queue based on traffic potential, urgency and developing trends.
> Assign stories to writers based on their strengths, workload and platform potential.
> Support writers with pitches, angles, sourcing, reporting and story development.
> Support copy editors with headlines, difficult edits, prioritisation and editorial decisions.
> Edit and publish articles when required, ensuring accuracy, strong headlines, readability and British house style.
> Identify opportunities for original reporting, expert commentary, Reddit and social reactions, follow-up angles and additional context.
> Ensure the graveyard desk operates efficiently with minimal supervision.
> Reddit Experience
> Strong familiarity with Reddit is essential.

The successful candidate should understand Reddit culture and subreddit communities, know how to identify emerging stories and conversations, and be comfortable strategically promoting suitable IBTimes UK content on Reddit while respecting individual subreddit rules.

Requirements:

> At least three years' experience in digital news, editing or online publishing.
> Previous experience managing or supporting writers and/or copy editors.
> Excellent news judgement and a proven instinct for identifying stories with strong traffic potential.
> Strong understanding of Reddit, Google Search, Google Discover, MSN and social media.
> Ability to develop fresh, compelling angles from breaking, trending and viral stories.
> Strong headline-writing and editing skills.
> Comfortable making fast editorial decisions and working independently.
> Excellent written English and attention to accuracy.
> Familiarity with WordPress or a similar CMS.
> Comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to improve editorial workflows while maintaining editorial accuracy.

Success in This Role:

You'll succeed if you can consistently spot stories with traffic potential, find angles competitors have missed, understand where those stories are most likely to perform, and keep writers and copy editors moving throughout the shift.

You should be equally comfortable jumping on major breaking news, spotting an emerging Reddit conversation, finding a strong Search opportunity, or recognising a story with MSN or Discover potential.
