Grant Writer & Grants Coordinator
The Beacon Center | Remote | Full-Time or Part-Time
About The Beacon Center
The Beacon Center is a community-based nonprofit organization in Montgomery, Alabama, focused on expanding access to services that help individuals and families thrive.
Our work includes behavioral health and counseling, healthcare access and health literacy, food security, workforce development, adult education, homelessness services, violence intervention, reentry support, community partnerships, and other initiatives designed to address social determinants of health.
As The Beacon Center continues to grow, we are seeking a highly organized and skilled Grant Writer & Grants Coordinator to help identify funding opportunities, develop competitive proposals, manage grant deadlines, and strengthen our overall grants pipeline.
Position Overview
This is not simply a writing position.
We are looking for someone who can help build and manage a strong grant development system for The Beacon Center.
The ideal candidate will be able to research funding opportunities, understand complex grant requirements, develop compelling proposals, organize supporting documents, maintain deadlines, communicate what information is needed from leadership and program staff, and assist with post-award reporting.
You should be comfortable working with U.S.-based foundations, corporations, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and philanthropic funders.
Primary Responsibilities
Grant Research
Research foundation, corporate, local, state, federal, healthcare, and community funding opportunities.
Identify grants that align with The Beacon Center’s programs and strategic priorities.
Review eligibility requirements before recommending opportunities.
Maintain a pipeline of upcoming grant opportunities.
Provide brief summaries of recommended grants, including funding amount, deadline, eligibility, program alignment, required documents, match requirements if applicable, and a recommendation on whether we should pursue the opportunity.
Grant Writing
Draft letters of inquiry and full grant proposals.
Develop compelling organizational narratives.
Write needs statements, program descriptions, goals, objectives, outcomes, sustainability plans, evaluation sections, and organizational capacity statements.
Adapt existing organizational information for different funders rather than starting from scratch each time.
Ensure proposals clearly respond to the funder’s questions and scoring criteria.
Assist with grant budgets and budget narratives in coordination with leadership and finance staff.
Proofread and edit proposals before submission.
Grant Management
Maintain a centralized grant calendar.
Track application deadlines, reporting deadlines, award notifications, renewals, and follow-up dates.
Maintain organized grant folders and supporting documentation.
Create checklists for each application.
Notify leadership early when documents, signatures, budgets, data, or partner information are needed.
Maintain updated versions of commonly requested organizational documents.
Grant Reporting
Help prepare interim and final grant reports.
Track required outcomes and reporting requirements.
