POSITION SUMMARY
Daily Strength Devotional is seeking an experienced, proactive, persistent, and results-driven Grant Writer and Grant Sourcing Specialist.
This person will take ownership of the entire grant process, from identifying funding opportunities to preparing applications, submitting proposals, following up with funders, and supporting post-award reporting.
We are not looking for someone who will passively wait for opportunities.
The successful candidate must actively and consistently search for grants, build a strong funding pipeline, identify decision-makers, communicate with funders, submit persuasive applications, and follow each opportunity through to a final decision.
The goal of this position is to secure sustainable funding that can support the growth, programs, publishing, digital expansion, community outreach, faith formation, and service initiatives of Daily Strength Devotional.
--------------------------------------------------
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct daily research to identify grants and funding opportunities that match the mission and programs of Daily Strength Devotional
- Search for funding from private foundations, Catholic foundations, Christian organizations, corporate foundations, international development organizations, government programs, family foundations, and other eligible funders
- Identify grants related to faith formation, religious publishing, digital ministry, literacy, education, youth development, family support, community outreach, technology, media, capacity building, and organizational growth
- Research funding opportunities available to organizations operating in Nigeria, Africa, the United States, and internationally where Daily Strength Devotional is eligible
- Carefully review every funder's eligibility requirements, geographic restrictions, funding priorities, deadlines, award amounts, and reporting requirements
- Avoid spending time on grants for which Daily Strength Devotional is clearly ineligible
- Maintain an organized grant database containing the funder's name, website, contact information, deadline, funding amount, requirements, application status, and next steps
- Create and maintain a detailed weekly, monthly, and annual grant calendar
- Prioritize the grants with the strongest alignment and greatest likelihood of success
- Prepare letters of inquiry, concept notes, expressions of interest, grant proposals, sponsorship requests, and complete funding applications
- Write persuasive and customized proposals that clearly communicate the mission, reach, impact, programs, needs, and future goals of Daily Strength Devotional
- Develop strong statements of need, project descriptions, goals, objectives, timelines, expected outcomes, evaluation plans, and sustainability plans
- Assist with preparing project budgets, budget narratives, financial information, and funding requests
- Gather and organize all supporting documents required for applications
- Develop a reusable grant document library containing organizational information, leadership biographies, program descriptions, impact data, budgets, testimonials, photos, registration documents, and previous applications
- Tailor every application to the specific funder instead of submitting generic or copied proposals
- Contact funders when appropriate to introduce Daily Strength Devotional, ask eligibility questions, request clarification, and develop professional relationships
- Attend virtual funder information sessions, webinars, and applicant conferences when necessary
- Submit complete applications before the required deadline
- Follow up consistently on submitted applications without becoming unprofessional or disrespectful
- Respond promptly to questions, requests for additional information, interviews, and due-diligence requirements from funders
- Track all applications as researching, preparing, submitted, pending, approved, declined, or funded
- Record the reasons for declined applications when feedback is available
- Improve future applications using funder feedback and previous application results
- Assist with grant acceptance documents and award agreements
- Monitor grant restrictions, deliverables, reporting deadlines, and approved uses of funds
- Prepare or support required progress reports, financial reports, outcome reports, and final grant reports
- Provide weekly reports showing grants researched, opportunities qualified, applications in progress, applications submitted, follow-ups completed, decisions received, and funds awarded
- Protect confidential organizational, financial, donor, and funder information
- Never fabricate statistics, partnerships, programs, financial information, beneficiaries, or organizational results
- Ensure every statement made in an application is accurate, supportable, and approved by Daily Strength Devotional
--------------------------------------------------
