We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and service-driven Financial Analyst & HR Operations Specialist to support our clients across financial reporting & forecasting, HR operations, payroll, and compliance.
We are a management consulting company that supports small business owners who want to grow sustainably without taking on equity investors. We support growth strategy, finance, operations, human resources, and systems related to those areas, for a wide variety of business types. We typically start with businesses when they reach US$500,000 - $2 million in revenues and stay with them until they are ready to hire senior leaders, at $10-$15 million.
You’ll work directly with the company’s CEO and our small business owner clients, helping them understand their numbers, streamline back-office functions, and stay compliant with state and federal requirements. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys blending finance, HR, and operational problem-solving while collaborating closely with others.
Key Responsibilities
1. Finance Support & Reporting
- Using our forecasting methodology, build 1–2 year forecasts and pro forma models for US businesses (including payroll, debt, and operating expenses).
- Support the CEO in preparing agendas and reports for clients’ monthly business reviews.
- Review and interpret monthly financial statements; identify trends, variances, and actionable insights.
- Validate closed books prepared by accountants or bookkeeping teams.
- Use accounting software to pull reports, review transactions, and support analysis (closing is a plus, not required).
- Translate financial data into clear, practical explanations for clients.
2. HR & Payroll Operations
- Manage HR workflows in Gusto or Rippling: policies, employee documents, onboarding & offboarding.
- Run payroll cycles, bonus runs, and exit payroll accurately and on time.
- Manage quarterly and year-end tax reporting.
- Set up benefits and ensure deductions (including retirement plans) sync correctly.
- Monitor the HR support inbox and resolve client requests promptly.
- Maintain secure, organized digital HR files.
3. Compliance & Administrative Support
- Understand rules for US small business designations like sole proprietor, LLC, and S-corporation.
- Handle compliance registrations via CorpNet or state portals.
- Track notices, filings, and deadlines to keep clients compliant.
- Research employment requirements using the company’s paid SHRM account.
4. Client Partnership & Support
- Work closely with business owners to provide clarity on financial and HR processes.
- Respond to client questions promptly, accurately, and with a service-oriented approach.
- Offer insights that help clients run smoother, more compliant operations.
- And any other tasks or responsibilities assigned
Required Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret financial statements
- Experience building financial forecasts or pro formas
- Proficiency with cloud-based accounting software (QBO, Xero, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Gusto or Rippling
- Familiarity with employer compliance workflows
Strong proficiency with:
- Google Workspace
- Airtable
- Excel/Sheets (modeling, formulas, cleanup)
- HR systems & secure file management
Nice to Have:
- Experience assisting with monthly book closings
- Multi-state employer compliance knowledge
- SHRM-based research experience
Experience & Background
- Proven extensive experience in finance operations (planning, analysis, reporting), HR operations, payroll, or business operations.
- Experience supporting small businesses or service-based companies
- Strong analytical ability and clear communication skills
- High accuracy in financial, payroll, and compliance work
- Trusted with sensitive data and confidential information

What this role includes
This is a full-time remote position. The role offers a weekly compensation rate, so you can focus on the work and not manage the clock. Includes provisioned access to our company’s cloud-based systems, a monthly technology stipend for use of your internet and computer, and a health insurance allowance.
