About Us:

Astute Early Years Specialists is an Australian early childhood education consultancy based in Brisbane, supporting
childcare providers and a portfolio of early learning centres across Australia. We’re hiring a full-time, remote
Finance Officer to help run day-to-day finance across our centres — accounts payable and receivable,
reconciliations, month-end journals, on-charging, and reporting support — using Xero and our wider finance
stack.

This is a direct-hire contractor role (not through an agency). You’ll work closely with our CFO and Finance team in
Brisbane. We’re after a qualified accountant who wants to own their work and get it right, every time.

We are based in Australia (AEST), so your timezone lines up well with ours — that is a genuine plus for us.

Scope of Role:

• Manage end-to-end accounts payable and receivable in Xero — invoice checking, entry, approvals, payment
runs, and debtor follow-up

• Reconcile transactions via Hubdoc and Budgetly with correct coding and on-charging

• Complete weekly on-charge reconciliations across multiple centres and related entities

• Create and post end-of-month journals; assist with BAS and balance sheet reconciliations

• Support fortnightly payroll processing for allocated centres (PAYG, superannuation, leave)

• Help prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and cashflow forecasts

• Contribute to dashboards and KPI tracking (e.g. Occupancy, WRA%)

• Keep records audit-ready and suggest ways to streamline finance processes


Skills & Experience:

• You must be a qualified accountant — a bachelor’s degree in accountancy (or equivalent, Philippines) held or
in progress. This is essential, not a “nice to have”
• 3+ years running accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations and month-end in a finance role
• Hands-on Xero experience
• Strong grasp of core accounting principles and month-end processes
• Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills
• High attention to detail and comfortable owning deadlines
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Ability to work a shift with real-time overlap into Australian business hours (AEST/AEDT)
• Reliable high-speed internet and a proper home-office setup


Nice to Have:

• Exposure to Hubdoc, Budgetly, Fathom or Employment Hero
• Experience in a multi-entity accounting environment
• Exposure to Australian accounting standards and compliance (BAS, GST, PAYG, super)
• Experience working remotely for an Australian employer
• Exposure to the Australian childcare / ECEC sector
