We are seeking a Mid-Level Low Voltage Security Estimator with strong experience in construction estimating, blueprint and drawing interpretation, and commercial security systems.
The estimator will be responsible for reviewing construction documents, security drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate, complete estimates and detailed scopes of work for low-voltage security projects.
The ideal candidate understands both the technical side of security systems and the construction process. This person must be able to identify everything required to complete a project—not simply count devices on drawings.
Key Responsibilities
Review architectural, electrical, security, and low-voltage drawings and specifications.
Perform detailed takeoffs from construction drawings and bid documents.
Develop complete project estimates including:
Equipment
Materials
Cabling
Labor
Programming
Engineering
Project management
Equipment rentals
Subcontractor costs
Permits and inspections when applicable
Freight and miscellaneous project expenses
Create professional and detailed Scopes of Work (SOW) for proposals and customer estimates.
Identify system quantities, cable pathways, device locations, head-end equipment, power requirements, network requirements, and other project needs.
Review drawings for missing information, conflicts, or unclear requirements.
Prepare RFIs and clarification questions when information is incomplete.
Review specifications and determine manufacturer, product, and performance requirements.
Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
Compare supplier quotations and verify that proposed equipment meets project requirements.
Develop labor estimates based on installation complexity and field conditions.
Identify exclusions, assumptions, alternates, and potential change-order risks.
Coordinate with sales, engineering, project management, purchasing, and field operations.
Assist with value-engineering recommendations when appropriate.
Maintain accurate estimating documentation and project records.
Participate in bid reviews and project handoff meetings after contract award.
Systems Experience
Candidates should have estimating or field experience with several of the following:
Video Surveillance / CCTV
IP Cameras
Access Control
Intrusion Detection
Intercom Systems
Gate Access Systems
Automatic Gates and Operators
License Plate Recognition (LPR)
Video Intercom
Structured Cabling
Fiber Optic Cabling
Network Infrastructure
Wireless Bridges
Security Communications
Low-Voltage Power Supplies
Control Panels and Security Head-End Equipment
Experience estimating integrated security systems involving multiple technologies is highly preferred.
Drawing & Construction Knowledge
The estimator must be comfortable reviewing and understanding:
Architectural drawings
Electrical drawings
Security drawings
Low-voltage drawings
Floor plans
Site plans
Riser diagrams
One-line diagrams
Device schedules
Door schedules
Construction details
Equipment specifications
Division 27 and Division 28 specifications
The candidate should understand how construction sequencing and site conditions affect security installation costs.
Required Qualifications
Approximately 3–7 years of relevant estimating, construction, low-voltage, or security industry experience.
Experience preparing estimates for commercial construction or security projects.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Experience performing material and labor takeoffs.
Understanding of low-voltage installation methods and industry practices.
Ability to create complete and professional scopes of work.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to identify missing scope and potential project risks.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating-related software.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working for a security integrator, low-voltage contractor, electrical contractor, or general contractor.
Field installation or project management experience in low-voltage security.
Experience estimating large commercial, industrial, HOA/community, government, healthcare, or critical-infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with manufacturers such as Axis, Hanwha, Avigilon, Verkada, HID, Mercury, Brivo, Genetec, Milestone, Bosch, DMP, or comparable security platforms.
Experience with Bluebeam Revu or similar construction takeoff software.
Familiarity with AutoCAD drawings is beneficial.
