Job Summary
The Estimating Manager is responsible for building and running a high-output estimating function that allows the company to pursue more work without sacrificing bid quality, margin, or execution confidence.
This role is accountable for turning incoming opportunities into clear, well-scoped, and professionally submitted bids—while building the systems, tools, and structure needed to scale estimating capacity over time.
You will work closely with company leadership, project managers, and vendors to ensure estimates are accurate, timely, and aligned with how the work will actually be built. This is a hands-on role with real influence on project selection, workload balance, and overall company growth.
The right person is practical, organized, and decisive—someone who can both produce estimates and build a repeatable estimating system that reduces chaos and increases throughput.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bid Execution & Estimating Delivery
* Take ownership of incoming bid opportunities from initial review through final submission
* Perform or coordinate electrical takeoffs, scope reviews, and pricing development
* Prioritize bids based on deadlines, fit, and company capacity
* Ensure bids are submitted on time, complete, and professionally organized
2. Scope Clarity & Preconstruction Coordination
* Review drawings and specifications to identify scope gaps, risks, and assumptions
* Coordinate RFIs, vendor quotes, and subcontractor pricing
* Align estimates with how projects will actually be executed in the field
* Support clean handoffs to operations after award
3. Estimating System & Workflow Ownership
* Build and improve estimating workflows, templates, and tracking tools
* Maintain clear visibility on all active bids, deadlines, and statuses
* Introduce structure to reduce missed details, rushed bids, and rework
* Use software and AI tools to improve speed, consistency, and organization
4. Capacity & Throughput Growth
* Help the company pursue more opportunities without overloading internal teams
* Coordinate internal and external estimating resources when needed
* Identify bottlenecks and improve estimating efficiency over time
* Support leadership in making better go/no-go bid decisions
Required Qualifications
* 3–5+ years of construction estimating experience, preferably in electrical work
* Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
* Proven experience producing or supporting accurate takeoffs and estimates
* Experience managing multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
* Proficiency in Excel and digital estimating/takeoff tools
* Strong written and verbal English communication (client- and vendor-facing)
* Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment
* Practical familiarity with AI tools to improve workflow speed and output quality
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with commercial or industrial electrical contractors in the U.S.
* Experience improving estimating processes, templates, or systems
* Familiarity with tools like Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar platforms
* Experience coordinating outsourced estimating or third-party support
* Background in construction management, engineering, or related field
