T-Bird Drones is a stealth startup company that is pursuing the development of drone technologies.
An engineer is needed to support the design of printed circuit boards (PCB) and electrical systems on a drone. The ideal candidate brings expertise in PCB layout, power electronics, signal integrity, EMI mitigation, and RF-aware design. It is necessary to ensure robust electrical connectivity under vibration, thermal cycling, and environmental exposure typical of drone operation.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
• Exceptional problem-solving skills
• Design of multi-layer PCBs for flight-critical and payload functions including motor control, power distribution, sensor fusion, and communication interfaces
• Develop schematics and PCB layouts using industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, or Cadence)
• Perform design rule checks (DRC) and electrical rule checks (ERC) prior to fab release
• Define and manage stackup configurations for impedance control and high-speed signal routing
• Apply EMI best practices throughout PCB layout including ground plane strategy, decoupling, and trace routing to minimize radiated and conducted emissions
• Create and maintain component libraries, footprints, and design templates
• Ability to read and produce professional-quality schematics, PCB fabrication packages, and wiring documentation
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in engineering or related field
• BLDC motor system design
• Modeling and simulation
This position is an hourly job with deliverables every month. Successful execution of milestone objectives in monthly deliverables will determine if continued work will be required from the job candidate. The duration of this job can be long term with successful execution of milestones.
This position is fully remote with flexible work times. Occasional meetings in the Central Time Zone will be required.
Pay rate will be based on education, skills, and experience.
