Position Summary
The Electrical Estimating Analyst is responsible for reviewing construction plans and specifications for renovation projects with a primary focus on electrical systems. This role involves performing material and labor takeoffs from 2D architectural and electrical plans, developing accurate cost estimates, and supporting the bid process from initial review through final submission. The position requires proficiency in modern estimating techniques, including the use of AI-powered tools and online resources to ensure competitive and precise pricing.
Core Responsibilities
Electrical Plan Review & Takeoffs
Review 2D construction plans, electrical drawings, and specifications for renovation projects to identify scope of electrical work.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical components including wiring, conduit, panels, receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures, and specialty systems.
Identify discrepancies, missing details, or ambiguities in plans and flag them for clarification with project managers or design teams.
Cross-reference architectural, mechanical, and structural plans to ensure complete electrical scope capture.
Cost Estimating — Labor & Material
Develop comprehensive cost estimates for electrical labor and materials based on takeoff quantities and current market pricing.
Apply industry-standard estimating techniques including unit-cost, assembly-based, and parametric estimating methods.
Maintain and update material pricing databases using vendor quotes, supplier catalogs, and online pricing tools.
Calculate labor hours using established productivity rates, adjusting for project-specific conditions such as working hours, site access, and renovation complexity.
Account for overhead, profit margins, contingencies, and escalation factors as directed.
AI Tools & Online Research
Leverage AI-powered estimating tools and platforms to accelerate takeoff and pricing workflows.
Use online resources to research current material costs, labor rates, code requirements, and product specifications.
Stay current with emerging AI and digital tools relevant to construction estimating and recommend adoption where beneficial.
Utilize digital plan viewing and markup software for efficient plan navigation and annotation.
Bid Support & Communication
Support all phases of the bid process including initial scope review, estimate preparation, bid compilation, and submission.
Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding bid status, pricing revisions, scope changes, and estimate clarifications.
Track active bids, deadlines, and revision requests to ensure timely and accurate responses.
Prepare bid comparison summaries and assist with value engineering recommendations when requested.
Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and confirm availability.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience reading and interpreting 2D electrical and architectural construction plans.
Familiarity with electrical systems, components, and installation methods for commercial and residential renovation projects.
Proficiency in construction estimating techniques (unit-cost, assembly-based, parametric).
Working knowledge of electrical codes (NEC) and local building requirements.
Comfort with AI-based tools, digital takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or equivalent), and spreadsheet applications.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with project teams, vendors, and clients.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
