We are a growing Australian technology and local-media company building a long-term remote team in the Philippines. We are hiring a careful and visually minded Photo Curator to source, review and organise images for local-news pages across multiple cities.
This is a remote, part-time independent-contractor role for approximately 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will begin with a two-week paid trial.
THE ROLE
You will find suitable images from approved and legally usable sources, check that each image accurately represents the story and location, and prepare clear attribution and usage records. This is an editorial research and quality-control role, not primarily a graphic-design position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Source relevant, high-quality photographs from approved libraries, official sources and properly licensed collections.
• Confirm that images match the correct person, place, event and date.
• Check licences, permissions, attribution requirements and usage restrictions before selection.
• Write accurate captions, credits and concise alternative text.
• Avoid misleading, duplicated, low-quality or unnecessarily distressing images.
• Maintain organised records of source links, licence information and selection decisions.
• Escalate uncertain ownership, identity or editorial-safety issues rather than guessing.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Strong visual judgement and excellent attention to detail.
• Good web-research and image-verification skills.
• A practical understanding of copyright, Creative Commons and image attribution.
• Clear written English for captions, credits and alternative text.
• Experience in photo research, digital publishing, journalism, libraries or content operations is helpful.
HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED
• Images are accurate, locally relevant and suitable for the associated story.
• Rights and attribution records are complete and reliable.
• Captions and alternative text are concise and factual.
• Potential copyright, identity and editorial risks are escalated promptly.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through this platform with a short introduction, your CV or work history, your hourly rate within the advertised range, your weekly availability, and answers to all three screening questions below. Generic applications that do not answer the questions will not be considered. Include links or anonymised samples where relevant.
1. How would you confirm that a photograph genuinely shows the stated person, place or event?
2. What information would you record before using a Creative Commons or third-party image?
3. What would you do if an image is visually strong but its ownership or licence is unclear?
PAID TEST
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to a short paid test: source suitable images for a small set of local-news items, document the source and usage rights, and write a caption, credit and alternative text for each selection.
We offer long-term work, predictable weekly hours, clear advancement opportunities, quality-focused management and respectful collaboration across time zones.
Important: Do not include passwords, private customer data or confidential material in your application. Shortlisted applicants may be asked to sign confidentiality and intellectual-property terms before receiving scoped access.
