About Us
Water Design Engineers is an independent engineering consultancy focused on solving water in the landscape. Our work includes drainage and SuDS design, irrigation design, water feature design, constructed wetlands, water treatment coordination, and wider water infrastructure input across a range of projects.
We work closely with landscape architects, architects, developers, and other consultants to deliver practical, coordinated, technically robust design solutions.

The Role
We are looking for a Drainage and Water Infrastructure Design Engineer to join our team. Drainage will be the primary focus of the role, so we are looking for someone with solid experience in drainage and SuDS design who can contribute confidently to live projects from the outset.
This role is not limited to traditional drainage work. You will also support the wider team on projects involving water infrastructure, landscape-led water management, wetlands, irrigation interfaces, and related civil design coordination. We need someone who is technically capable, practical in their thinking, and willing to get involved wherever needed to help move projects forward.
We are ideally looking for someone with around 4 to 7 years of relevant experience, although strong applicants outside this range will also be considered where they can demonstrate the right technical capability, software skills, and attitude.

Key Responsibilities
Undertake drainage and SuDS design as the primary part of the role
Prepare drawings, design information, calculations, and technical support documents
Develop coordinated drainage layouts and levels-based solutions from available survey and design information
Use Civil 3D for drainage-related design and modelling work
Work in Revit to support model-based project coordination and design development
Coordinate with internal and external project teams including landscape architects, architects, and other consultants
Support wider water infrastructure and civil design elements where required across the company’s project portfolio
Identify technical risks, clashes, missing information, and design dependencies early
Contribute to a practical, team-focused design environment with a positive and proactive attitude

What We’re Looking For
Degree in Civil Engineering or similar relevant discipline
Strong drainage design experience, ideally gained over around 4 to 7 years in practice
Good working knowledge of SuDS and or external works drainage design
Proficient in Civil 3D
Able to work in Revit for design coordination
Good understanding of levels, flow paths, site constraints, and buildable design solutions
Strong communication skills and a practical, solutions-led mindset
Someone with a can-do attitude who is willing to contribute to a range of project types, not just stay in a narrow discipline box

Desirable
Experience working on landscape-led or multidisciplinary projects
Experience supporting drainage strategies, flood-related infrastructure, or wider water management design
Understanding of how drainage interfaces with broader external works and water infrastructure systems
