JOB OVERVIEW

Job Type: Full-Time | Remote | Night Shift

About the Role

We're rebuilding the finance function of a multi-location food-service business, and we need an experienced finance leader who can personally lead the transformation — not just oversee or report on it.

This is not a traditional caretaker CFO or advisory role. You'll take ownership of the finance function, stabilize the essentials, identify what's not working, and rebuild the people, processes, systems, controls, reporting, and accountability needed for finance to become a reliable decision-making engine for the business.

You should be comfortable getting hands-on when needed — including stepping into accounting and finance operations while the function is being rebuilt.

What You'll Own

Lead the complete finance function through a hands-on transition and transformation
Assess what is working, what is broken, and what needs to be redesigned
Restructure the finance team's roles, responsibilities, workflows, and accountability
Build accurate, controlled financial reporting and protect cash, payroll, and compliance
Own budgets, rolling forecasts, cash planning, and financial controls
Make profitability visible by location, brand, channel, and product
Build timely management information and leading indicators that help leadership identify problems early
Evaluate pricing, promotions, investments, and business decisions using clear financial and commercial analysis
Improve financial performance, cash management, forecasting, and overall business visibility
Build systems and processes that reduce dependence on individual people and create continuity when team members leave
Determine when people should be trained, reassigned, placed on performance plans, or replaced based on evidence and business needs
Introduce the right balance of AI and human resources to improve finance operations and decision-making
Develop a capable, self-sufficient finance team and eventually build a successor
What We're Looking For

10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally at CFO, Finance Director, or equivalent senior level
Proven experience rebuilding, restructuring, or transforming a finance/accounting function
Strong hands-on experience across accounting, financial management, forecasting, cash, controls, and reporting
Track record of improving profitability, financial performance, forecasting, and cash management
Strong commercial instincts — including pricing, unit economics, promotions, investment analysis, and business cases
Ability to use financial and operational data to identify problems and drive better decisions
Experience redesigning teams, processes, systems, and responsibilities
Comfortable personally stepping into the work when necessary rather than operating purely at an advisory level
Advanced, hands-on use of AI and modern finance/technology tools
Professional finance/accounting qualification strongly preferred
Strong leadership, judgment, and ability to make difficult people and business decisions based on evidence
Bonus If You Have

Experience in complex multi-location hospitality, restaurant, food-service, or retail businesses
Experience managing finance across multiple brands, locations, or business units
Client-facing advisory or consulting experience
Experience building finance teams that can operate independently without constant executive intervention
A history of challenging executives with clear financial evidence and commercially grounded recommendations
You'll Thrive Here If You

See finance as a business decision-making tool, not just a compliance function
Enjoy walking into a messy or underperforming function and figuring out how to fix it
Are comfortable being both a strategic leader and hands-on operator
Like building systems, teams, and processes from the ground up
Care about developing people and creating a team that can succeed without depending on you
Are comfortable working with both people and AI-enabled systems
Want to leave the finance function stronger, more scalable, and more independent than you found it
