Position Summary
The Controller will be responsible for managing the company's financial operations, reporting, forecasting, and accounting processes across all locations. This individual will provide actionable financial insights, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and help leadership make informed business decisions.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both strong accounting expertise and the ability to analyze financial performance and recommend improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight
-Review and analyze monthly Profit & Loss statements
-Prepare and review balance sheets and cash flow reports
-Ensure financial accuracy across all locations
-Conduct financial audits and internal reviews
-Maintain accrual-based accounting practices
-Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
-Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
-Strategic Financial Management
-Develop and maintain financial forecasts and projections
-Create annual budgets and monitor performance against targets
-Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies
-Provide financial recommendations to ownership and leadership
-Support long-term growth planning and expansion initiatives
-Track technician utilization, efficiency, and productivity metrics across locations
-Develop location scorecards that combine financial and operational performance indicators
-Partner with Operations leadership to identify performance improvement opportunities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
-Prepare weekly financial reports for ownership
-Deliver monthly financial packages for all locations
-Analyze budget versus actual performance and identify key variances
-Monitor shop-level profitability and financial health
-Analyze labor efficiency, technician productivity, and gross profit trends
-Monitor parts margins and inventory-related financial performance
-Develop and maintain KPI dashboards for leadership
-Assist with acquisitions, financial due diligence, and expansion opportunities
-Support banking relationships, financing requests, and lender reporting
-Provide recommendations to improve profitability, cash flow, and operational efficiency
-Serve as a strategic financial advisor to ownership and executive leadership
-Present financial performance, risks, and recommendations during leadership meetings
-Translate financial data into actionable business decisions
Asset & Liability Management
-Maintain depreciation schedules
-Track business loans and financing obligations
-Manage loan settlements and payoff schedules
-Monitor capital expenditures and asset investments
Automotive Industry Accounting
-Reconcile parts inventory and cores
-Review vendor accounts and purchasing trends
-Monitor location-specific financial performance
-Support operational teams with financial reporting and analysis
Fraud Prevention & Risk Management
-Monitor internal controls to mitigate fraud, waste, and financial risk
-Implement financial controls and accountability measures across locations
Payroll & Compensation Oversight
-Oversee weekly payroll processing
-Review and audit commission calculations
-Ensure compliance with payroll and labor regulations
-Support compensation reporting and analysis
Qualifications
Required
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
-5+ years of accounting, finance, or controller experience
-Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and financial reporting
-Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
-Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis
-Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
-Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with leadership
Preferred
CPA designation
-Multi-location business experience
-Automotive repair industry experience
-Previous Controller or Accounting Manager experience
-Experience with acquisitions and business expansion
-Payroll oversight experience
