We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated contractor with strong medical writing expertise—preferably in optometry or ophthalmology—to support our grant development and educational strategy efforts. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a biomedical, clinical, or medically related field is strongly preferred.
This role plays a critical part in identifying funding opportunities, crafting compelling and scientifically rigorous grant proposals, and supporting content strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Development & Support
- Medical Writing & Grant Writing: Draft and edit accurate, evidence-based, and compliant grant proposals—including needs assessments, literature-supported rationales, budgets, and supporting documents—tailored to each grantor’s therapeutic priorities.
- Grant Prospecting: Research, identify, and evaluate grant opportunities that align with VME’s educational goals, therapeutic areas, and program objectives.
Content Strategy
- Gap Analysis: Conduct needs assessments, analyze data, and identify educational gaps and opportunities for innovative programming. Partner with the publication team to identify survey strategies to support data-driven insights.
- Curriculum Design Input: Provide strategic input on curriculum design, learning objectives, and program formats to maximize educational value and clinical impact.

Schedule Requirements
- Must be available to work 8 hours per day on a consistent schedule.
-Must be available during Pacific Time (PT) business hours (9 AM–5 PM PT) during the onboarding period (first 2 weeks).
- After onboarding, flexible scheduling is permitted, with a preferred daily overlap of 1–2 hours with PT business hours.

??- Expected to develop approximately 10 grants per quarter.??
Required Qualifications
-Advanced Degree: A PhD or equivalent degree in a biomedical, life science, or medically related field is highly preferred.
-Therapeutic Area Knowledge: Deep familiarity with ophthalmic and optometric therapeutic areas, including anterior/posterior segment diseases, glaucoma, dry eye, refractive conditions, and retina.
-Pharma/Device Experience: Prior experience collaborating with pharmaceutical or medical device clients, preferably in the eyecare space, with strong knowledge of industry priorities and medical education needs.
-Compliance Familiarity: Understanding of CE and grant compliance standards including ACCME, COPE, and related reporting guidelines.
-Analytical & Strategic Skills: Ability to analyze data, interpret clinical literature, and translate insights into compelling educational strategies and outcomes narratives.
-Communication Skills: Exceptional written communication, detail orientation, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
