Graphic Designer & Video Editor (part-time, long-term)
We're a small marketing agency in New Zealand. We do marketing for financial advisers, mostly mortgage and insurance advisers and KiwiSaver specialists. We're looking for someone to take creative production off our plate (with our overseeing) so we can focus on growing the business.
What you'd actually be doing
Your main job is static design. Meta ad images, carousels, social graphics, landing page visuals and the odd
The second part is video. Clients and our team film short-form content, usually talking-head style on a phone, and you turn it into ads and Reels people actually watch. Cutting, pacing, captions, hooks in the first few seconds, and exporting the right versions for each placement.
We write the brief and set the direction, and we sign off anything a client or consumer will see. Past that, the craft is yours. You d
A bonus if you can do it: publishing blog posts to WordPress and scheduling social posts. Not required, but that would be highly valued.
Please read this bit before applying:
Static design is the core of this role, and it's where we need you strongest.
We see a lot of applications from video editors who can put a graphic together in Canva when they need to. There's nothing wrong with that, but it isn't this job. If your design experience is "I've made some posts", please save us both the time. We do test this properly, and there's no clever way to talk your way around a portfolio.
What we need
3+ years designing for paid social or digital marketing. Agency-side ideally, since you'd be moving between client brands here
A strong static portfolio. Ads that were built to perform, not just look nice
Solid short-form video editing. Reels, TikTok and Meta video ads in 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1, with clean captions and good pacing
Confident in Figma, or Canva for design, and Premiere Pro, or CapCut for video
You can work inside someone else's brand guidelines without it looking like a template
Good written English. You'll be taking briefs in writing and you'll be in our Slack every day
Online 7am to 11am Manila time. We're based in New Zealand and need to be able to communicate during business hours.
Nice to have but not required: financial services, mortgage or insurance marketing. Motion graphics or After Effects. WordPress. Social scheduling tools like Metricool or GoHighLevel. Basic copywriting.
What we're like to work for
Our clients are licensed financial advisers, which means there are real legal rules about what their ads can say. So any text a consumer will read, headlines, on-screen captions, anything mentioning rates, comes from us or gets checked by us first. Don't add or change wording on a creative without running it past us.
Every file gets saved to the right client folder, named properly, with editable source files kept. That's the one thing we're strict about. It's how we stay out of your way without losing track of what's been made.
If you're going to miss a deadline, tell us the same day. Nobody here gets in trouble for bad news arriving early.
You'll always know what you're working towards, because every piece of work comes with a written brief.
This is part-time and long-term, a direct contract with us. No agency in the middle taking a cut. Paid every fortnight through Wise on the 15th and the 30th. We've never paid anyone late and we don't intend to start with you.
How to apply
Please don't send a template. We read every application and we can spot one from the first line.
Your portfolio, with at least 5 static ads or social graphics and 2 short-form videos you edited. Tell us which ones you're proudest of and why
Tell us about a creative that performed well or badly. What was the idea, what did you do, and what did you learn from how it went. Under 250 words, real numbers if you have them
Tell us straight whether you're stronger at design or at video, and why
Your CV or profile, any blog or social posting experience, and the hourly rate you're looking for in USD
Start your message with the word ORCHARD so we know you got this far
If you're shortlisted we'll send you a real brief: one static ad and one short video edit from raw footage. It takes about 90 minutes and we pay you your rate for it, because your time is worth something before you work here as well as after.
Then a video call. We're hoping to have someone chosen by Oct 10th.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
