SHL Builders is a New York-based General Contractor and Construction Management company specializing in high-end residential renovations, apartment remodels, brownstone/townhouse renovations, and commercial interior construction.
We are looking for an experienced Remote Construction Estimator to join our team and assist with estimating and bidding for projects in New York City.
The ideal candidate has previous experience estimating projects for U.S.-based General Contractors and is comfortable reviewing complete construction drawing sets, performing detailed takeoffs, developing scopes of work, and preparing accurate cost estimates.
Responsibilities
• Review architectural, structural, MEP, reflected ceiling plans, schedules, specifications, and other construction documents
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings
• Prepare detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
• Develop clear scope-of-work breakdowns by trade
• Review subcontractor and vendor proposals and compare them against project drawings and scope
• Identify missing scope, discrepancies, and potential cost items in drawings and specifications
• Assist with bid preparation and proposal pricing
• Assist with pricing Change Orders and additional work during construction
• Maintain and update estimating spreadsheets and cost information
• Communicate with the Project Manager and management team regarding pricing, scope, and project requirements
• Request and organize subcontractor/vendor pricing when required
• Help ensure that all relevant trades and project requirements are included before an estimate is finalized
Requirements
• 3+ years of construction estimating experience preferred
• Previous experience estimating U.S. construction projects preffered
• Experience working with or estimating for a General Contractor is strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of residential construction and renovation
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
• Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs independently
• Understanding of construction sequencing, materials, labor, and trade scopes
• Experience with construction estimating or takeoff software
• Strong attention to detail
• Good written and spoken English
• Ability to communicate clearly with a U.S.-based construction team
• Reliable internet connection and ability to work independently
• Ability to meet estimating deadlines
Working Hours
This is a remote position supporting our New York-based team.
Candidates must be available for regular communication during agreed working hours and should have some availability during New York business hours (Eastern Time).
