About the Role
We are hiring a Remote CAD Technician who will help design low voltage and code-compliant fire alarm systems based on NFPA 72, local AHJ requirements, and industry standards.
This is not a simple drafting role.
You will actively participate in the design process, perform research, interpret code requirements, and help configure fully compliant fire alarm plans for commercial buildings.
We need someone who is:
A self-starter
Comfortable researching NFPA rules
Able to solve design challenges independently
Highly detailed with strong drafting fundamentals
You will work independently and directly with U.S. project managers and designers to prepare drawings, layouts, risers, submittals, and as-builts for real construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
Fire Alarm System Design Support
• Assist in designing NFPA-compliant fire alarm systems (device layout, spacing, placement).
• Research and apply rules from NFPA 72, NEC, and local AHJ requirements.
• Identify code-driven requirements such as:
o Smoke/heat detector spacing
o Notification device coverage
o Strobe candela placement
o Fire alarm circuit routing and survivability
• Review architectural and electrical drawings for design impact.
CAD Drafting & Technical Tasks
• Clean, organize, and standardize background CAD files.
• Set up drawing sheets, viewports, title blocks, and layers.
• Draft device layouts, risers, wiring diagrams, and system details.
• Create submittal drawings and update as-built revisions.
• Interpret field markups and apply design redlines.
Research & Problem Solving
• Look up AHJ requirements online (city/state fire department standards).
• Compare differences between NFPA requirements and local code amendments.
• Document findings and communicate possible design impacts to engineers.
• Identify missing information in plans and propose solutions.
Collaboration & Communication
• Coordinate with project managers and engineers.
• Ask clarifying questions when needed, but work independently when possible.
• Maintain highly organized project files and consistent CAD standards.

• Ability to interpret NFPA 72 rules or eagerness to learn quickly.
• Experience drafting fire alarm, electrical, or low-voltage systems.
• Strong analytical skills and willingness to research code/AHJ requirements.
• Ability to read architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
