Part Time
$7 - $8 per hour

We’re a small US business with two locations in California, each set up as its own company. We’re looking for an experienced bookkeeper and tax accountant to take full ownership of our books and taxes for both entities.
This isn’t a role where you’ll be handed clean books and a process to follow. Our books are behind and only partly accurate, and nothing has been set up for the newer entity yet. You’ll build the bookkeeping from the ground up, clean up the history going back to 2024, and then keep everything accurate and current month to month. You’ll report directly to the owner. He’s looking for someone who can guide him on what’s needed, not someone who needs to be told what to do.
What Matters Most to Us
You must be a CPA with hands-on experience doing bookkeeping and tax work for US small businesses, including S-corporations. Applications without this will not be considered.
We don’t have anyone on our side who can train you, so you need to know this work well enough to walk in and take over on day one.
You should have:
CPA credential and at least 3 years of bookkeeping and accounting experience
Direct experience preparing US federal and California taxes for S-corporations, including year-end returns, quarterly estimates, and sales and payroll tax filings
Strong QuickBooks Online experience, including setting up a new company file from scratch
Experience cleaning up messy or incomplete books, including categorizing and reconciling a backlog of transactions
Comfort managing two separate companies with separate books and bank accounts
Clear written and spoken English, since you’ll be explaining what you find and what needs to change to someone who isn’t an accountant
An ownership mindset. You spot what’s wrong or missing, tell us, and fix it without waiting to be asked.
Responsibilities
Set up and maintain QuickBooks Online for both entities, including the chart of accounts for the newer company
Record and categorize all income and expenses, and reconcile bank and credit card accounts every month
Clean up historical records for 2024 and 2025 and make sure every expense is properly categorized and deductible where it should be
Prepare and file all taxes for both entities, including year-end S-corp returns, quarterly estimates, and sales and payroll tax filings
Produce simple monthly financials for each location that the owner can actually use
Join a short weekly video call with the owner to walk through progress, open questions, and what’s coming up
Communicate day to day through Google Chat
Schedule
Part-time, around 15–20 hours per week. Expect more hours in the first couple of months while the cleanup is underway, and again during tax season.
Hours are mostly flexible. Some overlap with US Pacific Time is needed for the weekly call and occasional questions, but most of the work can be done on your own schedule.
Start date: As soon as possible
Compensation
$7–$8 USD per hour, depending on experience and fit.
