Job Type: Part-Time / Freelance
Work Location: Remote
Industry: Book Publishing / Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)
Position Overview
I am seeking a dependable and organized Book Review Outreach and Promotion Specialist to help increase the visibility of books published through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.
The ideal candidate will understand ethical book promotion, Amazon’s review policies, and the rules of third-party websites. This person will identify legitimate opportunities for book reviews, submit or place books on appropriate websites, track results, and provide a detailed monthly report.
This position is focused on building long-term visibility and reader engagement. It does not involve purchasing reviews, creating fake accounts, writing reviews for readers, or guaranteeing positive ratings.
Key Responsibilities
Book Review Outreach
Research legitimate book review websites, book blogs, newsletters, podcasts, reading groups, and reviewer communities.
Identify reviewers whose interests match each book’s genre and target audience.
Submit books to reviewers according to each reviewer’s submission requirements.
Prepare professional and personalized outreach messages.
Maintain a record of every reviewer contacted.
Follow up professionally when permitted.
Track accepted, declined, pending, and completed review requests.
Provide reviewers with approved digital or print copies when authorized.
Never request, pressure, or guarantee a positive review.
Third-Party Book Placement
Find reputable websites where books can be listed, featured, promoted, reviewed, or submitted.
Place books on free and paid promotional websites after receiving approval.
Review each site’s rules before submitting a book.
Ensure book descriptions, author information, categories, pricing, links, and cover images are accurate.
Track submission dates, publication dates, fees, results, and expiration dates.
Recommend new promotional opportunities based on genre, audience, price, and expected value.
Avoid websites that use fake traffic, automated reviews, review exchanges, or misleading promises.
KDP and Policy Compliance
Understand and follow Amazon KDP and customer-review policies.
Keep up with policy changes that may affect book reviews and promotions.
Avoid compensated reviews, review manipulation, fake reviews, and prohibited review exchanges.
Do not ask friends, relatives, employees, or individuals with a close personal or financial relationship to post reviews.
Follow the rules of Goodreads, BookBub, social media platforms, review websites, and promotional services.
Immediately report any questionable opportunity before submitting a book or making a payment.
Tracking and Monthly Reports
Provide a monthly report that includes:
Books promoted during the month.
Reviewers and websites contacted.
Dates of all submissions.
Free and paid placements completed.
Amount spent on each placement.
Pending, accepted, declined, and completed review requests.
Links to published reviews and promotional listings.
New Amazon reviews received during the reporting period.
Changes in each book’s average rating and total review count.
Website traffic, clicks, downloads, sales, or other available results.
Problems, policy concerns, or negative feedback discovered.
Recommendations and priorities for the following month.
The specialist must maintain an organized spreadsheet or tracking system that can be reviewed at any time.
Required Qualifications
Experience with book marketing, publishing, blogging, or review outreach.
Familiarity with Amazon KDP and Amazon’s customer-review policies.
Strong online research and written communication skills.
Ability to evaluate whether a promotional website is legitimate.
Excellent organization and attention to detail.
Ability to manage several books and submission deadlines.
Experience using spreadsheets and preparing performance reports.
Ability to work independently and communicate consistently.
Strong commitment to ethical and policy-compliant promotion.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience promoting nonfiction, personal finance, investing, business, credit, retirement, or expatriate books.
Existing relationships with book bloggers, reviewers, podcasts, newsletters, or promotional websites.
Experience with BookBub, Goodreads, Booksprout, NetGalley, BookSirens, or similar platforms.
Basic knowledge of SEO, keywords, metadata, and Amazon book listings.
Experience tracking promotional expenses and calculating results.
Performance Expectations
Success will be measured by:
Number and quality of legitimate review opportunities identified.
Number of accurate book submissions and placements completed.
Growth in honest reader reviews and book visibility.
Compliance with Amazon and third-party platform policies.
Accuracy and completeness of monthly reports.
Ability to meet deadlines and stay within the approved budget.
Quality of communication and recommendations.
Reviews, ratings, rankings, and sales cannot be guaranteed. The specialist will be evaluated on the quality and consistency of the work—not on promises of positive reviews.
Important Restrictions
The selected candidate must not:
Purchase fake or guaranteed reviews.
Write reviews on behalf of readers.
Create or use fake reviewer accounts.
Offer payment in exchange for a positive review.
Require a reviewer to leave a specific rating.
Participate in review-for-review arrangements.
Use automated or bot-generated reviews.
Violate Amazon KDP policies or the rules of another platform.
Pay for any service without prior approval.
Any activity that could place an author’s Amazon account, books, or reputation at risk must be reported immediately.
