About Us
American Lending Finance is a U.S. auto finance company based in Michigan. We work with subprime borrowers: customers who can't get conventional financing and need a lender who understands their situation. We get loan applications from a select group of partner dealerships.
Position Summary
We're looking for a detail-oriented Underwriting Assistant who takes loan applications from the moment they arrive to the moment they're booked. You'll enter and verify applications, apply our underwriting guidelines, talk with dealers, customers, and employers, and make sure every file is complete before it's funded.
Key Responsibilities
Application Processing & Underwriting
Receive credit applications from our partner dealers and enter them into our loan system accurately
Review credit reports and scoring, and check each application against our guidelines, including Loan-to-Value (LTV), Payment-to-Income (PTI), and Debt-to-Income (DTI)
Make or recommend a credit decision based on our underwriting policy
Structure and confirm payment arrangements that fit the customer's budget
Verification
Call customers to verify identity, residence, income, and loan terms
Call employers to verify employment and income
Call dealers to confirm deal details, vehicle information, and stipulations
Spot inconsistencies or red flags and escalate them to the lead underwriter
Documentation & Booking
Prepare loan documents and go over the terms with the customer
Collect and track all required documents and stipulations from dealers and customers
Book approved loans and make sure each file is complete and ready to fund
Portfolio Analysis (between applications)
Review recently charged-off accounts to find patterns in borrower behavior, deal structure, and early warning signs
Share what you find so we can keep improving our underwriting decisions
Requirements
Excellent, fluent spoken and written English. You'll be on the phone every day with U.S. customers, dealers, and employers
Experience in auto loan underwriting, loan processing, KYC, or customer verification (subprime auto experience is a strong plus)
Understanding of LTV, PTI, DTI, and credit report basics
Able to understand what a customer needs and explain loan terms clearly and professionally
Strong attention to detail and the discipline to follow guidelines consistently
Comfortable making a high volume of outbound calls
Reliable high-speed internet, a quiet work area, and a good headset
Schedule
Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week
We're open 6 days a week, 8:00 AM–7:00 PM Eastern Time
Shifts are either 8:00 AM–5:00 PM ET or 11:00 AM–7:00 PM ET. That's currently 8:00 PM–5:00 AM or 11:00 PM–7:00 AM Philippine time, and one hour later during U.S. winter months
Some Saturday shifts required
