Job Title: After Effects Editor / Motion Designer for Documentary YouTube Channel
Type of Work: Gig (project-based, ongoing)
Wage: $45–60 USD per finished minute of video
Hours per Week: Varies by project, roughly 10-30 hours per video
Job Overview:
Pezle is a US-based YouTube channel that makes long-form documentary video essays about internet history and online culture: the people, communities, and events that shaped the internet. Videos run 18-25 minutes and are built from archival footage, screenshots, forum posts, interviews, and original motion graphics.
Watch this before applying:
We're looking for a skilled After Effects editor to work alongside our main editor. Our main editor handles the structure and primary cut. You'll handle the motion graphics and visual storytelling that make the videos feel cinematic.
Pay example: a 20-minute video pays $900–1,200 USD. Payment is per completed video.
What you'll do:
Build animated sequences that explain events, timelines, and relationships between people
Make archival material such as old websites, forum threads, chat logs, and low-resolution footage readable and visually interesting
Create maps, title cards, and recurring graphic elements
Occasionally help with the main edit when deadlines are tight
Requirements:
Strong After Effects skills shown in real work, not template packs
An understanding of film: pacing, rhythm, and knowing when a graphic helps a scene and when it distracts
Experience with documentary, video essay, or storytelling content is strongly preferred
Comfortable working from a script and taking feedback
Good English communication and reliable deadlines
Premiere Pro is a plus
Hiring process: Shortlisted applicants complete a paid test of a short segment from a real Pezle script using our assets.
How to apply:
Send a message that includes:
A link to your portfolio or reel (links only, please, no file attachments)
Links to two or three projects, with a note on exactly what you did on each
One or two sentences about a documentary or video essay whose editing you admire, and why
Start your message with the word "ARCHIVE" so we know you read the full posting. Applications without it won't be reviewed.
