JOB OVERVIEW

Primary Work: Quarterly Magazine Layout & Editorial Design (Pawn Industry Publication)

Availability Required:
• 10 AM–2 PM PST (must be responsive and available for questions during this window)
• Comfortable working with U.S. time zones and firm production deadlines
• Client: National Pawnbroker Magazine (U.S.–based, PST client base)

About the Project:

We produce ongoing quarterly issues of National Pawnbroker Magazine, a 40–50 page industry publication. This role focuses heavily on long-form editorial layout using Adobe InDesign.

You will be responsible for structuring and designing full magazine issues, including covers, feature spreads, recurring sections, advertisements, and infographics. Content will be provided, and you will translate it into clean, professional, press-ready layouts.

What You’ll Do:
• Design and lay out full magazine issues in Adobe InDesign
• Build and maintain master pages, paragraph styles, and character styles
• Flow editorial content from provided drafts (Google Docs/Word) into structured layouts
• Design covers, article spreads, infographics, and ad placements
• Manage linked assets (images, logos, ads) and organize files properly
• Prepare and package press-ready files (CMYK, bleeds, margins, printer specs)
• Export final files for print and digital publication
• Collaborate with our team and remain available for Q&A between 10 AM–2 PM PST
• Take direction and feedback clearly and professionally

Must-Have Skills:
• Strong portfolio in magazine layout and long-form editorial design
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign (required)
• Strong typography and layout hierarchy skills
• Experience preparing files for professional print production
• Ability to follow brand guidelines and maintain consistency across 40–50 pages
• Excellent communication and responsiveness

Working Style:
This is a remote contract/freelance position. You are not “on the clock,” but you are expected to be responsive and available on Slack between 10 AM–2 PM PST during production and deadline days.
