We're looking for an experienced accountant with hands-on Australian tax experience to prepare tax papers, handle day-to-day accounting work, and lead our bookkeeping team. You'll be the go-to person for getting client files accurate and compliant, and for keeping the bookkeeping team on track.
Duties include:
Prepare Australian income tax returns (individuals, sole traders, companies, trusts and partnerships).
Prepare BAS and IAS.
Handle GST, PAYG withholding, and Medicare levy matters
Keep work-papers clean, complete and audit-ready
Accounting
Prepare financial statements and management reports
Complete month-end and year-end close (reconciliations, journals, accruals)
Review and correct account categorisation and coding
Support superannuation, STP and general compliance obligations
Team management
Oversee and review the bookkeeping team's work for quality and accuracy
Allocate tasks, set priorities and manage turnaround times
Coach and support junior tea
Act as the escalation point for complex queries
Client
Respond to client questions clearly and promptly
Raise and follow up on client queries (e.g. clarifying transactions, chasing documents)
What we're looking for
Solid, recent experience preparing Australian tax returns and BAS
Strong working knowledge of Australian tax and compliance (GST, PAYG, super, STP)
Experience with Xero and MYOB (Dext / Power BI a plus)
Experience supervising or reviewing a bookkeeping team
Accurate, detail-focused, and well organised
Clear written and spoken English
CPA / CA qualified or working towards it (or equivalent) - Nice to have
Experience across payroll and modern award interpretation
Familiarity with practice/workflow tools and process documentation - Nice to Have.
Comfort working with cloud-based systems and offshore/remote teams
