Illustrator/Animator/Rigger Needed — New Military History YouTube Channel.
JOB OVERVIEW
We're hiring a 2D Illustrator/Animator/Rigger for my channel, a new YouTube channel covering world military history — wars, weapons, commanders, and major conflicts — through cartoon-style storytelling. Our visual and pacing reference is Agent Flappy (137k subscribers)
— think split-panel comparison thumbnails, bold on-screen text, and cinematic historical scenes told through a consistent cartoon art style. We're not affiliated with Agent Flappy; we're using it as a north star for the quality and tone we're building toward.
This is a ground-floor opportunity for a versatile 2D artist who can design characters and backgrounds, rig them for efficient animation, and animate scenes tightly synced to voiceover — ideally all in one person, since we're just starting out.
You'll work directly with me (the channel owner) — I'll provide scripts, voiceovers, and creative direction, and you'll design the visual world and bring it to life.
COMPENSATION & PERKS
- Typical video length: 8-10 min
- Month 1: $500 — build core character/background asset library + deliver 1 video
- Month 2 onward: $450/month for 2 videos/month, using the asset library you've built
- Retainer scales up as we move to 4 videos/month (growth path, not a fixed commitment yet)
- +5% of AdSense revenue for first 30 days on videos you co-animate
- Paid monthly
- Long-term opportunity with room to level up as the channel grows
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Design & Rig Characters/Scenes
- Design characters, props, and backgrounds in Photoshop or Illustrator, matching our reference style
- Rig characters/props for efficient puppet-style animation
- Build a reusable asset library so future videos are faster to produce
2) Animate Scenes (Weekly/Bi-weekly)
- Import layered PSD files into After Effects
- Animate characters, props, and environments based on:
- Provided storyboards
- Voiceover timing
- Our established animation style
- Apply motion, camera movement, transitions, and light effects as needed
3) Voiceover-Driven Timing & Pacing
- Cut and prep voiceover audio into scene segments
- Sync animation precisely to narration
- Maintain pacing consistent with high-retention YouTube content
4) Project Setup & File Management
- Organize AE projects using a defined folder structure
- Label comps and assets clearly for review and revisions
5) Weekly/Monthly Assembly & Export
- Render scenes for review
- Apply feedback and revisions
- Assemble final sequences (After Effects or Premiere)
- Export final video to channel specifications
6) Collaboration & Reliability
- Work directly with me on a set schedule
- Communicate progress and blockers early
- Hit agreed-upon delivery deadlines
THIS ROLE IS A GOOD FIT IF YOU:
- Love military history, wars, and world affairs
- Enjoy production-focused animation work
- Are comfortable animating quickly to voiceover-driven scripts
- Like working within an established cartoon visual style
- Can reliably deliver on deadline
THIS ROLE IS NOT A GOOD FIT IF YOU:
- Prefer full creative control unrelated to our reference style
- Mostly do corporate explainer videos
- Are looking for a one-off or short-term gig
- Struggle with deadlines
REQUIRED SKILLS
Must-Have:
- Strong proficiency in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop (or Illustrator)
- Ability to design original characters/backgrounds in a cartoon/vector style
- Experience rigging and animating from layered Photoshop files
- Familiarity with rigging tools (Duik, RubberHose, or similar)
- Solid understanding of timing, easing, and motion principles
- Comfortable animating to voiceover-driven scripts
- Organized workflow and clear communication
Nice-to-Have:
- Basic Premiere Pro knowledge
- Experience working on history/military-themed YouTube content
- Interest in military history, wars, weapons, and world conflicts
OUTPUT EXPECTATIONS (IMPORTANT)
- Month 1: core character/background assets + 1 completed video
- Month 2 onward: 2 completed videos per month (8-10 min each), scaling to 4/month as the channel grows
- Consistent quality matching our target style (Agent Flappy as reference)
- Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
