Dubin Law Group is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to support our personal injury team.
Applicants must have recent, hands-on experience performing the medical billing cycle, including areas such as claim submission, denial resolution, payment posting, EOB/ERA review, accounts receivable, and insurance follow-up.
Insurance claims-processing experience alone is not sufficient. This is NOT an insurance claims representative, claims intake, or general customer-service position.
Legal experience is NOT required. We will train the selected candidate on personal injury workflows, Letters of Representation, liens, subrogation, and Filevine.
General virtual-assistant, legal-assistant, medical-records, appointment-setting, intake, or administrative experience without substantial medical billing experience does not qualify.
About the Role:
You will use your medical billing knowledge to review medical bills, provider ledgers, EOBs, insurance payments, adjustments, balances, liens, and reimbursement information for personal injury cases.
The ideal candidate understands how healthcare providers bill insurance companies, how insurance payments and adjustments appear on an account, and how to identify incorrect balances, duplicate charges, missing payments, and other billing discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities:
Review medical bills, itemized statements, provider ledgers, EOBs, and account balances.
Analyze billed charges, insurance payments, contractual adjustments, patient responsibility, and outstanding balances.
Identify duplicate charges, missing payments, incorrect balances, billing discrepancies, and unrelated treatment charges.
Contact medical providers and insurance companies to request updated billing information and current balance statements.
Track outstanding billing requests and conduct timely follow-up.
Send Letters of Representation to medical providers and insurance companies.
Track health-insurance liens, subrogation claims, and reimbursement interests.
Update balances, billing information, notes, and supporting documentation in Filevine.
Communicate billing concerns and updates to attorneys and case-management staff.
Escalate complex billing, lien, or reimbursement issues when necessary.
Manage multiple cases, requests, and deadlines while working independently.
Required Medical Billing Experience:
At least two years of recent, hands-on U.S. medical billing or revenue-cycle experience.
Experience performing multiple parts of the medical billing cycle, including:
Insurance eligibility and benefits verification.
Charge entry or claim preparation.
Medical claim submission.
Rejected-claim correction and resubmission.
Denial follow-up and resolution.
Appeals or reconsiderations.
EOB and ERA review.
Insurance and patient payment posting.
Accounts-receivable and aging follow-up.
Billing-discrepancy and underpayment resolution.
Communication with insurance payers regarding reimbursement issues.
Experience with health-insurance payers, such as commercial insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.
Ability to read and understand medical bills, EOBs, ledgers, adjustments, balances, and insurance terminology.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
Excellent organization, follow-up, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Broad medical billing experience across multiple specialties or payer types.
Experience reviewing provider ledgers and detailed balance statements.
Experience negotiating or tracking medical liens.
Experience with health-insurance subrogation or reimbursement claims.
Experience communicating directly with medical providers and insurance companies.
Experience with Filevine or similar case-management software.
Medical lien negotiation and personal injury experience are valuable advantages, but they do not replace the required medical billing background.
Remote-Work Requirements:
Available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific Time.
Reliable high-speed internet connection.
Quiet and professional work environment.
Personal computer capable of supporting cloud-based software and multiple browser tabs.
Reliable backup plan for internet or power interruptions.
