Industrial Product Designer / 3D CAD Specialist – Consumer Product Development

Job Type: Project-Based / Freelance
Location: Remote
Compensation: Negotiable based on experience and project scope

About the Project

I'm developing a premium, luxury golf accessory that I plan to manufacture and sell commercially.

I have already created detailed photorealistic product renderings showing the intended design from multiple angles. I am now looking for an experienced **industrial designer or mechanical CAD specialist** who can transform these renderings into an accurate, professional, and manufacturable 3D CAD model.

This is a real product development project, not simply a 3D rendering exercise.

The product consists primarily of a sculpted hardwood body, custom brass components, and an integrated cleaning brush.

What You'll Be Doing

- Study reference renderings and translate the design into accurate 3D CAD geometry.
- Reconcile inconsistencies between different reference views.
- Preserve the original design's appearance, proportions, curvature, and detailed craftsmanship.
- Develop realistic dimensions, cross-sections, and component relationships.
- Model a sculpted wooden body with curved surfaces and carefully beveled edges.
- Design mounting provisions for brass components, fasteners, and brush bristles.
- Identify potential manufacturing challenges and recommend practical solutions.
- Prepare editable CAD files and professional technical drawings for prototyping and eventual manufacturing.

Required Qualifications

- Strong experience with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or comparable professional CAD software.
- Experience with industrial design, mechanical design, or physical consumer product development.
- Strong ability to create complex curved surfaces, sculpted bodies, and precise solid models.
- Understanding of materials, mechanical connections, assembly methods, and manufacturing constraints.
- Ability to translate product images and concept renderings into physically realistic 3D models.
- Attention to detail and the ability to preserve the aesthetics of an existing design.

**Experience with CNC machining, woodworking, metal components, or luxury consumer products is a major plus.**

Project Deliverables

The project will be divided into two stages.

Stage 1 — Exterior Design and 3D Modeling

- Develop a precise 3D model from the provided reference images.
- Establish consistent dimensions and geometry.
- Reproduce the original sculpted shape and overall appearance as closely as practical.
- Provide multiple views of the model for review.
- Make agreed-upon revisions until the exterior design is approved.
- Deliver the editable native CAD model and STEP file.

Stage 2 — Detailed Engineering and Manufacturing Preparation**

- Finalize individual component geometry and mounting details.
- Develop the product assembly.
- Produce dimensioned engineering drawings and cross-sections.
- Prepare native CAD, STEP, and STL files.
- Identify any unresolved manufacturing or prototyping requirements.

The initial contract will focus on Stage 1. Stage 2 may be awarded after satisfactory completion of the first stage.

Important Design Requirement

I am very particular about preserving the original product's appearance.

I do not want someone who will simplify the design into a generic shape just because it is easier to model.

The ideal candidate can balance aesthetics, mechanical accuracy, and manufacturability.

I will provide all available reference images, preliminary dimensions, and previous design notes.
