Part Time
$400 USD per month (10 hours per week)

We are three UK businesses run by the same owner. We are looking for ONE part-time graphic designer to handle print and brand work across all of them.
10 hours per week. 400 USD per month. Long-term, not a one-off project.
That works out at roughly 9 USD per hour, which we know is above the usual part-time rate here. That is deliberate. We would rather pay properly for fewer hours of someone genuinely good than fill more hours with work we could have produced ourselves. In a busy month there is scope for more hours at the same hourly rate.
ABOUT US
Tuition Republic is a weekend tuition centre in Walthamstow, east London. We teach English, Maths and Science to children aged 5 to 16, on Saturdays and Sundays. Website:
Pure Oud is a fragrance brand selling oud and attar perfumes. Website:
The third business is a second tuition centre, which shares Tuition Republic's visual language.
Please look at both websites before applying. Being able to move between those two worlds, a friendly and trustworthy children's education brand and a premium fragrance brand, is the main thing we are looking for.
WHAT THIS ROLE ACTUALLY IS
We are not asking you to invent brands from scratch. All three businesses already have logos, colour palettes and photography. We also produce our own first drafts, often with AI tools, and they get us to about 80 percent.
We are hiring you for the other 20 percent: typography, spacing, hierarchy, and knowing how a file behaves when it is actually printed. If your plan is to run our brief through an AI image tool and send back what it gives you, please do not apply. We can already do that ourselves and it is exactly the thing that is not good enough.
WHAT YOU WILL BE GIVEN
- Logo files and a settled brand palette for each business. Tuition Republic's is cyan, navy and white, with a single orange reserved for the main call to action. The palettes are d
- Professional photography, high resolution.
- Our own draft layouts for most pieces, as a starting point.
- A written brief for every job, with references.
THE WORK WAITING FOR YOU
1. A roller banner, 850 x 2000 mm, that stands outside a school entrance. Hundreds of parents walk past it every week. The current one does not stand out and needs redesigning. This will be your first task.
2. A 12-page A4 welcome pack for the tuition centre. Exists, needs refining to a proper standard.
3. The A5 brochure for Pure Oud. This one has to be immaculate.
4. A brochure for the second tuition centre.
5. Possibly an 11+ exam preparation starter pack.
After that: ongoing leaflets, posters, social graphics and seasonal campaign artwork, a few pieces most weeks.
WHAT YOU MUST BE ABLE TO DO
- Set multi-page documents properly. InDesign preferred, Illustrator acceptable.
- Produce genuinely print-ready files: CMYK, correct bleed and safe margins, correct resolution, fonts packaged or outlined, imposition where needed.
- Design for large format, where the reader is 10 metres away and moving.
- Work to a fixed brand palette without drifting off it.
- Take written feedback and revise without needing to be re-briefed from the beginning.
Social media graphics are a small part of this role, not the main part. If your portfolio is only Canva social tiles, this is not the right fit and we will be able to tell.
NO UNPAID TEST TASK
We are not going to ask you to design our banner for free so we can pick a favourite. We know spec work is common here and we think it is unfair on good designers, who have other clients and cannot afford to work for nothing.
If we shortlist you and we want to see how you work before committing, we will pay you for that piece of work at a rate we agree first. Nothing you produce for us is unpaid.
HOW WE WORK
- English written communication. We brief in writing, in detail, with references.
- Flexible hours. We do not monitor your screen. We care about the work landing on time.
- Paid monthly. We are reliable and we expect the same.
TO APPLY, SEND US THREE THINGS
1. Two or three examples of PRINT work you took from rough to press-ready. Brochures, banners, signage, packaging. Tell us which part was your own work.
2. One of those examples with a sentence on what the printer sent back or what you had to fix. We want to know you have dealt with real print production, not just exported a PDF.
3. A banner outside a school is read by a parent 10 metres away, walking, in about two seconds. In two or three sentences: what is the single most important decision in designing that?
Applications that skip point 3 will not be read. We are reading every one that includes it.
