Most controller titles offered from the Philippines are a bookkeeping queue with a better name. This one is the real seat. You will be the financial authority for business groups with up to $30 million in revenue, and you will still do your own bank recs.
Who we are
We are a US accounting and tax firm. We have worked with business owners since 1991, and most of our accounting work is for multi-unit franchise groups: owners with ten, twenty or more stores, each in its own entity, closing on the franchise system's period calendar.
You would work directly with us. No agency in the middle, no account manager speaking for you, and nobody billing your hours to a client you are never allowed to talk to.
The seat
You are the controller for a group of our largest franchise clients. When an owner asks whether they can afford the next store, or what the bank will see in the covenant test, you are the person who knows. Not because you read a summary someone else prepared. Because you built the numbers.
What you own:
The close and the financial statements. Every period, on the franchise system's calendar, which for most of our clients means a 13-period year. Statements the owner can use, ready when promised.
Budgets and cash forecasts. You tell the owner what the next quarter looks like before it arrives.
Lender and covenant reporting. You run the covenant calculations and you know where each group stands against its loan terms before the bank does.
Internal controls. Over cash and payables, store by store. You find the gap before it becomes a loss.
Store purchases and sales. You read the closing documents, book the purchase price allocation, set up or retire the assets and intangibles, and produce the numbers a buyer or a lender will ask for.
The owner relationship. You are the owner's main financial contact. You explain the numbers on a call, plainly, and you send weekly reports to the clients who get them. Every week, without a reminder.
You still do the work
This is not an advisory role and it is not a management role. The person in this seat does bank reconciliations.
You reconcile the accounts yourself. Groups with dozens of bank accounts across dozens of entities. You find every difference and you prove it. You do not plug it, and you do not book a balancing entry to make it go away.
You book the hard entries yourself. Franchise fees and the intangibles they create, their amortization, and activity between related entities.
You review newer staff within 48 hours and send their work back with notes they can learn from.
You train. When a newer accountant asks how a client works, you show them that day.
You write it down. Every client you run has a current written procedure: how its bank feeds work and which entries are unusual to it.
If a controller title means you stopped touching reconciliations years ago, this is the wrong seat. We want someone who can explain a covenant test to an owner at ten in the morning and find a $312 difference in a bank rec at eleven.
The grunt work is going away. You help us retire it
We are rolling out AI tools over the coming months, and bank reconciliation matching is first on the list. The aim is to take the repetitive work off your desk so your hours go to the judgment calls.
You will help us test these tools on real clients. That means using them, telling us where they get things wrong, and checking every number they produce until we trust them. You do not need prior experience with AI. You need to want it, and you need to stay skeptical of it.
Hours
You work Philippine hours with a fixed overlap into the US Eastern morning, 7 to 11am Eastern. Owners call in that window and our team meets in it. We agree the rest of your day with you and then we keep to it.
Pay and Benefits
$4,500 USD per month
Plus 13th month pay. Uncommon in a contractor arrangement. We pay it anyway
Unlimited paid time off. The statutory floor in this country is five days a year. We do not count yours at all, and we expect you to spend it
Philippine daytime hours with one agreed US overlap window
Philippine public holidays observed. You work your country's calendar, not ours
Signing bonus to cover a second monitor, UPS, or generator
US CPA or EA sponsorship if you want it. We pay the fees and give you study time
That is the top of what this market pays a controller on US accounts, and we set it there on purpose. We want the best person available, and we do not want to lose them the moment somebody else makes an offer.
What you bring
At least eight years of accounting for US clients, with at least three of them owning the full close and financial reporting for a multi-entity group, as controller or in practice
Franchise or other multi-unit experience: many entities under one owner, with numbers that have to tie
Hands-on experience with store or business acquisitions and sales: closing documents, purchase price allocation, intangibles and amortization
Budgets, cash forecasts and loan covenant reporting you have built yourself
Bank reconciliations you have done yourself in the last twelve months
Experience reviewing other accountants' work and training newer staff
Thomson Reuters Accounting CS. If your command is in another professional package, say which and we will talk. QuickBooks Online and ShareFile are useful
A record of logging your time on every task, because some of our clients are billed on it
English strong enough to explain a set of financial statements to a US business owner on a live call
A stable home setup and the discipline to run your own day
A Philippine CPA or progress toward a US CPA is a plus. It is not required.
How we work
Read this part twice. We hire for it with the same weight as the technical skills above.
No task is beneath the seat. The controller does reconciliations. The title does not change that.
We change how we work, often. We are rebuilding the firm around automation, and processes that worked last year get replaced. When a new process arrives, you try it in good faith. If you think it is wrong, you say so in writing to the person who owns it, with your reasons, and then you follow the decision.
Your knowledge belongs on paper. Being the only person who knows how a client works is not job security here. It is a risk to the client, and we treat it as one.
Disagree with the work, never with the person. Problems go to the right person, privately, in a normal tone. We do not settle disagreements in the team chat.
You own your deadlines. If one is going to slip, you tell us before it slips, not after.
Verify, do not guess. A number you cannot support is not finished, however close the deadline is.
Your first 90 days
Days 1 to 30: You learn our systems and shadow the accountant who runs each client today through one full period close. By day 30 you have run one close yourself with review, bank recs included.
Days 31 to 60: You run your clients' closes and reconciliations yourself, weekly reports included. Every client you hold has a written procedure, written or updated by you. You have had a first financial review call with each owner.
Days 61 to 90: Each of your groups has a cash forecast and, where it has a loan, a covenant calculation you built. You are reviewing newer staff within 48 hours. You have tested our first AI reconciliation tool on at least one of your clients and told us what it gets wrong.
