JOB OVERVIEW

Remote | Philippines | Full-Time | Marketplace Growth & Promotion
The opportunity
The NYC Classifieds is built.
Now we need someone who can make New York City know it exists.
We are hiring an Operations & Growth Manager whose primary responsibility is to drive:
SIGNUPS. LISTINGS. BUSINESSES. USERS. ENGAGEMENT. GROWTH.
This is not a traditional administrative position.
This person will actively promote the platform, conduct outreach, build relationships, manage social media, communicate with users, collect feedback, identify opportunities, and work directly with the founder and development team to continually improve the product.
Visit the platform before applying:
----------
I confirmed the site is live. The current platform is 100% free, built specifically for NYC, covers all five boroughs and 126+ neighborhoods, and currently says it will officially go live after reaching 10,000 signups. Users are geo-verified using a live selfie and GPS at their NYC address. The NYC Classifieds
It already includes 12 classifieds categories, 220+ subcategories, direct messaging, saved searches and alerts, The Porch community, and a free local business directory. The NYC Classifieds
The product exists. Your job is to build the audience.
Your #1 job: Get people signed up
Every day, you should wake up thinking:
How many New Yorkers can I bring onto this platform today?
You will:
- Conduct direct outreach every day
- Recruit individual users
- Recruit NYC businesses
- Drive new registrations
- Encourage users to create listings
- Recruit businesses into the free directory
- Build activity within marketplace categories
- Follow up with interested users who don't complete registration
- Develop relationships with NYC communities and organizations
- Find partnerships
- Identify creative ways to acquire users without depending on paid advertising
- Track which outreach channels actually generate registrations
- Re-engage inactive users
- Help build enough momentum to reach the initial 10,000-user launch target
You will be measured by results, not by how busy you appear.
Own the social media
The social-media accounts have already been created.
Now somebody needs to make them matter.
You will manage and grow them through:
- Daily content
- Interesting listings
- NYC stories
- Business spotlights
- Neighborhood content
- User-generated content
- Community engagement
- Strategic commenting
- Direct outreach
- Partnerships
- Short-form video
- Category promotion
- Creative campaigns
We're not interested in meaningless follower counts.
We want:
SOCIAL → VISIT → SIGNUP → LISTING → ENGAGEMENT
Build both sides of the marketplace
A marketplace doesn't work because someone built a beautiful website.
It works when there are enough people on both sides.
For every category, you should be asking:
Who has the supply?
Who has the demand?
How do I get both onto NYC Classifieds?
Housing needs listings and renters.
Jobs need employers and candidates.
Services need providers and customers.
For Sale needs sellers and buyers.
The business directory needs NYC businesses and people searching for them.
Your responsibility is to help create marketplace liquidity.
Talk to users constantly
You will become one of the closest people in the company to our users.
Ask them:
- Why did you sign up?
- Why didn't you finish signing up?
- Why didn't you post?
- What confused you?
- What do you love?
- What feels unnecessary?
- What category is missing?
- What would make you return tomorrow?
- What would make you tell someone else about NYC Classifieds?
Then turn those conversations into actionable information.
Help direct product development
You don't need to code.
You do need to understand the product extremely well.
You'll work with the founder and developers to:
- Identify bugs
- Find friction
- Organize user feedback
- Recommend improvements
- Document problems clearly
- Prioritize feature requests
- Coordinate development updates
- Test new releases
- Verify that fixes actually solve the original problem
- Maintain a growth/product priority list
You're the bridge:
USERS → OPERATIONS → FOUNDER → DEVELOPMENT
Don't send the developer:
“Someone doesn't like signup.”

Bring us:
“Eight users abandoned verification at the same step this week. Here's exactly what happened, screenshots, what they told me, and what I think we should change.”

That's the standard.
What success looks like
Your scoreboard will include:
New registrations
New listings
Active users
Businesses onboarded
Outreach → signup conversion
Social → signup conversion
Returning users
Marketplace activity
User feedback
Product improvements shipped
Progress toward 10,000 users
We want someone who gets excited watching those numbers move.
Who we're looking for
You need to be:
- Aggressive about growth
- Extremely proactive
- Fast
- Persistent
- Confident
- Creative
- Comfortable messaging strangers
- Comfortable speaking with American users and businesses
- Excellent in English
- Social-media savvy
- Comfortable with technology
- Organized
- Analytical
- Able to work independently
- Comfortable working directly with developers
- Comfortable being measured by results
- Willing to experiment
- Willing to hear “no”
- Willing to follow up again
- Excited about building something from the beginning
Marketplace, community-management, sales, business-development, social-media, startup, customer-success, product-operations or digital-marketing experience can help.
But I care considerably more about what you're capable of doing now than what's written on your résumé.
Do not apply if...
You want to wait for work to arrive.
You dislike outreach.
You think posting three times per week is a growth strategy.
You need someone to tell you what to do every hour.
You don't follow up.
You're afraid of rejection.
You measure your performance by hours worked instead of outcomes.
You want to maintain something somebody else already grew.
This job is about building.
What we're building
Our ambition for The NYC Classifieds is enormous.
We believe this can become a major classifieds and local-community platform, beginning with New York City and ultimately capable of expanding far beyond it.
The platform is designed around a simple idea:
FREE. REAL. LOCAL. VERIFIED.
It's 100% free—no listing fees, premium tiers or paywalls—and is built specifically around NYC rather than being a national platform with an NYC filter. The NYC Classifieds
Every user is geo-verified.
Every NYC neighborhood can have its own marketplace and community.
There is a complete classifieds marketplace, The Porch community, direct messaging, search and alerts, and a free business directory. The NYC Classifieds
We believe this has the potential to become something very large.
Your opportunity is to help prove it.
Forget the résumé.
I don't want one.
I don't want a cover letter.
I don't want an AI-generated application explaining that you're “hardworking and detail-oriented.”
Your application is your video.
Go through the website first:
----------
Then record a 2–5 minute video and sell me on why you should be the person responsible for growing this brand.
Tell me:
- What do you think of the platform?
- What opportunity do you see?
- What would you do first?
- How would you get our first major wave of signups?
- What would you do with our social accounts?
- How would you recruit businesses?
- How would you build individual marketplace categories?
- What would your first 7 days look like?
- What would you accomplish in your first 30 days?
- What would you change or improve after reviewing the website?
- Why should I trust you with this brand?
Most importantly, answer:
“If I give you The NYC Classifieds tomorrow, what are you going to do with it?”
Send your video directly to Jeff on WhatsApp
+1 (212) ---------- Send your name + your video.
That's it.
No résumé required.
No cover letter required.
Show me how you think. Show me your energy. Show me your ideas. And sell me on why I should give you the opportunity to help build this.
