Employment type: Part-time, 25 hrs/week to start (Mon–Fri, 5 hrs/day within Australian business hours, UTC+8), with a path to full-time as the client base grows
Salary: USD 9–12 per hour, depending on experience
Job Overview
Australian boutique CFO advisory firm (name disclosed to shortlisted candidates) working with growing owner-managed businesses across construction, professional services, consulting and technology. We provide CFO-level strategy, tax structuring and financial modelling — you will run the execution layer that sits underneath it.
This is a permanent, core role reporting directly to the Principal (CPA / CGMA). You will own client ledgers end-to-end, create the working papers behind our advice, and pick up the ad-hoc work a small advisory firm generates. Our working day is UTC+8 — the same time zone as the Philippines: standard daytime hours, no night shift.
Key Responsibilities
Client bookkeeping (Xero): Bank reconciliations, AP/AR, project and tracking-category coding, quote-to-invoice, purchase-order registers and month-end close across several client files — to a written checklist, without being chased.
Compliance preparation: Draft BAS/IAS and GST reconciliations, payroll and STP, superannuation guarantee.
Creating workpapers: Build reconciled, referenced workpapers from source documents, year-end accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and lead schedules — with every figure agreed to an invoice, statement or ledger and an audit trail a reviewer can follow.
Financial models and reporting: Maintain Excel budget and cash-flow models, monthly management packs and budget-vs-actual reports in our template; flag variances in dollars.
Document control: Keep client folders in SharePoint / Microsoft 365 orderly; maintain the query register; send an end-of-day summary with all open questions batched in one list.
Ad-hoc work: Whatever the week needs — data collection and clean-up, research, formatting reports and proposals, chasing documents, setting up templates and systems, and other tasks the Principal assigns. Flexibility and initiative matter as much as technical skill.
Requirements
3+ years' accounting or bookkeeping for Australian clients (public practice, BPO or direct). You can explain GST, BAS, PAYG withholding, super guarantee and tracking categories without looking them up.
Xero Advisor Certified (Payroll certification a plus). Strong Excel: lookups, pivot tables, structured working papers.
Microsoft 365: Outlook, SharePoint, Teams.
Excellent written English — your work goes to clients under the firm's name.
Accuracy and follow-through: you reconcile to the cent and close the loop on every open item.
Reliable internet with backup power; available 4-5 hours per day within Australian business hours (Mon–Fri, UTC+8); camera on for weekly check-ins.
