JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description
We're a small team looking for a Java developer who's comfortable with SQL and ready to work on real, ongoing projects, not a one-off gig. This is a part-time, fully remote role of roughly 1-2 hours a day. If you're a couple of years into your career and want steady, low-commitment work where you can still grow, this could be a good fit.

Pay: $15-30/hr USD, depending on experience and the quality of your work. Paid weekly through EasyPay, with hours tracked in Timeproof.

Schedule:

Time zone: Eastern Time (EST)
You only work during scheduled sessions
We'll notify you the day before each scheduled session, so there's no need to be on call
Please tell us what hours in Philippine time you're usually available

What you'll be doing:

Writing and maintaining backend code in Java
Writing, tuning, and optimizing SQL queries and schemas
Fixing bugs and improving existing production code
Taking part in code reviews (giving and receiving feedback)
Keeping the codebase clean and consistent as the project grows

What we're looking for:
• 1-3 years of hands-on Java experience, with a solid grasp of OOP
• Real SQL skills: writing your own queries (MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred)
• Comfortable with REST APIs and Git
• English C1 or higher level

Nice to have:
• Spring / Spring Boot, Docker, Maven or Gradle, JUnit

Why work with us
This is a long-term role on a light schedule. You'll work directly with the person running the project, with no layers of management.

To apply, send us:

A short summary of your Java and SQL background
Confirmation that you're comfortable with about 1-2 hours per scheduled day, plus your usual available hours in Philippine time
A link to GitHub or a project you're proud of
Your expected hourly rate in USD
A 2-3 sentence answer: Describe a slow SQL query you fixed and how you fixed it.

Skip the copy-paste cover letter. We read every application.
