JOB OVERVIEW

About Us
We are a US-based group of small businesses in Indiana, including a growing social media and content agency. I built a working social media content system for a church, and I want to expand it into a full multi-client platform that runs our agency and our other companies.

The Project
You will take an existing system and extend it based on a written specification. The expanded platform includes:
- Clients: accounts, brands, contacts, and brand guidelines
- Media Items: photos, videos, graphics, and posts tracked from request to published
- Team Members: roles and permissions for staff, designers, editors, and clients
- Workflow: status stages and approval gates before content goes live
- Sales: packages, retainers, and proposals
- Billing: client invoicing tied to delivered work
- Contractor Pay: tracking and calculating pay for remote team members

The work will be done in phases, starting with the core client and media workflow.

The current system is built with PHP, MySQL, and Bootstrap. We are open to a different stack or framework if you can clearly explain why it is the better long-term choice. The owner is familiar with PHP and wants to be able to understand and maintain the code.

What You Will Do
- Review the existing codebase and the specification
- Design and build the database structure for the new modules
- Build user roles and permissions
- Develop new features phase by phase
- Communicate progress and questions clearly in writing
- Document your work so the system can be maintained long term

What You Need
- 3+ years of custom web application development
- Strong experience with PHP and MySQL, or another modern web stack (Laravel, Node.js, Python, etc.)
- Comfortable working in an existing PHP/MySQL/Bootstrap codebase
- Experience building apps with user logins, roles, and permissions
- Solid database design skills
- Git and version control
- Clear written English and consistent communication

Bonus Points
- Experience building CRM, project management, or billing systems
- JavaScript/jQuery or AJAX for interactive dashboards
- WordPress plugin or custom development experience
- API integrations (payments, social media platforms, cloud storage)
- Experience with cPanel hosting

Details
- Remote, long-term potential
- Starting pay $8 to $12/hour based on experience, with raises based on performance
- Some overlap with US Eastern Time required
- Paid test task for shortlisted applicants
