JOB OVERVIEW

We are building Earth Before Memory, a new English-language YouTube documentary channel focused on prehistoric Earth, extinct animals, ancient oceans, evolution and deep time.

We are looking for ONE long-term editor who can take a detailed production blueprint and turn it into a polished 12–16 minute cinematic documentary.

This is not a basic “cut clips together” editing job.

You should be comfortable handling most of the production process yourself, including:

• Long-form YouTube editing
• AI-generated images and video
• Cinematic still-image animation / parallax
• ElevenLabs voice generation and selecting the best takes
• Music selection
• Sound design
• Maps, diagrams and simple documentary UI
• Visual consistency across many shots
• Basic scientific / visual fact-checking
• Asset sourcing and licensing
• Final audio mix and export

STYLE

The channel should feel like a premium natural-history documentary.

Think:
• cinematic
• intelligent
• immersive
• scientifically believable
• strong pacing
• controlled tension

Do NOT apply if your work mainly looks like:
• generic AI slideshows
• TikTok / Shorts editing
• meme editing
• gaming videos
• excessive transitions or whooshes
• low-quality AI imagery
• basic stock-footage compilations

We already provide a detailed production system including:

• full script
• shot-by-shot edit plan
• pacing targets
• visual prompts
• narration settings
• music / sound direction
• fact-check notes
• brand rules
• quality-control checklist

You are not expected to invent the entire documentary from scratch.

Your job is to EXECUTE the production at a high level.

VOICE

Narration will use ElevenLabs.

You should be able to:
• generate multiple takes
• select the most natural take
• correct pronunciation problems
• maintain consistent pacing
• avoid robotic delivery
• edit narration cleanly

AI VISUALS

You must understand how to keep characters / objects visually consistent across many shots.

For example, one upcoming documentary uses the same small wooden sailboat throughout the entire video.

You must also be able to spot obvious AI problems such as:
• incorrect anatomy
• malformed animals
• unrealistic scale
• duplicated objects
• strange textures
• text artifacts
• inconsistent environments

PAID TEST

Shortlisted candidates will receive a paid 75–90 second editing test.

Paid test: $35 USD.

The test includes the same type of production instructions you would receive for a full video.

Only the strongest candidates will move to ongoing production.

FULL VIDEO BUDGET

Initial budget:
$150–$200 USD per finished 12–16 minute documentary.

This can increase if you consistently deliver strong work and can handle the production independently.

We are interested in building a long-term relationship, not hiring for one video.

HOW TO APPLY

Start your application with:

BEFORE MEMORY

Applications without these words at the beginning will not be considered.

Then answer the following:

1. Send a maximum of 3 portfolio links.

For EACH link, give the exact 20–60 second timestamp you want us to watch.

2. Which piece in your portfolio is closest to cinematic documentary / natural-history YouTube editing, and why?

3. Which AI image and AI video tools have you personally used?

4. Have you worked with ElevenLabs? Explain how you handle multiple takes, pacing and pronunciation.

5. How do you choose music for a documentary scene?

6. Imagine the same wooden boat appears in more than 100 AI-generated shots. How would you keep the boat visually consistent?

7. How would you prevent prehistoric animals from looking anatomically wrong or obviously AI-generated?

8. Can you provide editable project files and an asset / licensing log with every finished video?

9. How long would you need to finish a 12–16 minute documentary once all instructions are provided?

10. What would your rate be per completed 12–16 minute video after the paid test?

Please do not send a long generic cover letter.

We care more about your work, your answers and your attention to detail.

End your application with this exact sentence:

I understand that the paid test is 75–90 seconds and that passing the test does not guarantee ongoing work.
