Civil/Structural Engineer – Engineering Report Production

Full-Time Remote Contractor | Long-Term Position | $1,500-$1,800 USD/month

Thomas Engineering Consultants (TEC) is a U.S.-based structural engineering firm seeking a Civil or Structural Engineer located in the Philippines to join our Engineering Report Production Team.

This is a full-time, long-term position working directly with an established U.S. engineering company. You will work alongside other report-production team members and help convert field data collected by our engineers into complete professional engineering reports.

This is not simply an AutoCAD drafting position. We are looking for an engineer who can understand the data, prepare drawings and calculations accurately, assemble technical reports, and recognize when something does not look correct.

What You Will Do

TEC performs residential foundation evaluations. Our field engineers collect measurements, foundation elevations, photographs, sketches, and observations at each property.

Your job will be to take that information and help turn it into a finished engineering report.

Typical responsibilities include:

Convert field sketches and measurements into accurate scaled residential floor plans using AutoCAD.
Plot foundation elevation measurements on floor plans.
Prepare foundation elevation survey drawings and topographic-style engineering exhibits.
Enter and process field data using Microsoft Excel.
Assist with foundation deflection, tilt, differential elevation, slope, and related engineering calculations using TEC templates.
Compare current elevation data with previous surveys when available.
Prepare foundation repair plans and other engineering drawings based on instructions from the licensed professional engineer.
Organize inspection photographs and field observations.
Prepare and assemble engineering reports using Microsoft Word and TEC templates.
Review previous engineering reports, foundation repair documents, plumbing information, geotechnical information, and other project records when necessary.
Perform quality-control checks of drawings, calculations, photographs, and reports.
Identify missing or inconsistent information and communicate questions to the engineering team.
Track multiple reports and meet daily production deadlines.
Maintain organized project files using Dropbox.

TEC completes multiple engineering evaluations every business day, so this position requires someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a production environment.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
Minimum 1 year of professional civil/structural engineering experience.
Strong AutoCAD skills.
Ability to convert hand sketches and measurements into accurate scaled CAD floor plans.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong Microsoft Word skills.
Strong mathematical and analytical ability.
Excellent written English.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to follow established engineering procedures and templates.
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to a team.
Reliable computer and high-speed internet connection.

A Philippine PRC Registered Civil Engineer (RCE) credential is preferred but is not required.

Experience That Would Make You an Excellent Candidate

Experience in any of the following is especially valuable:

Structural engineering
Residential engineering
Foundation engineering
Concrete slab-on-ground foundations
Post-tensioned foundations
Geotechnical engineering
Foundation movement or settlement analysis
Residential construction
Topographic or elevation surveys
Engineering report preparation
Structural repair drawings
Quality-control review of engineering documents

Experience with Texas residential foundations is not required. TEC will provide training regarding our procedures, calculations, report formats, and engineering standards.

AutoCAD and Advanced Surface Modeling

TEC currently uses AutoCAD LT for standard report-production drawings, so strong 2D AutoCAD skills are required.

Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, or comparable surface-modeling software is NOT required, but it would be a significant advantage.

TEC collects numerous elevation measurements across residential foundations. A candidate who can convert these points into a TIN surface, contour plan, 3D surface model, elevation profile, or cross section would bring an additional capability to our team.

If you have this experience, please tell us what software you use and provide examples if available.

Because TEC currently uses AutoCAD LT, candidates offering this advanced capability should already have appropriate access to the required software.

Work Schedule

This position must work the same schedule as the rest of our Engineering Report Production Team:

Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time

For candidates in the Philippines, this is an overnight work schedule.

Please apply only if you are comfortable maintaining these hours consistently on a long-term basis.

This is not an asynchronous freelance position. Team members work together throughout the day on the same projects, so availability during these hours is required.

Compensation

$1,500-$1,800 USD per month, depending on experience and qualifications.

We are intentionally offering compensation significantly above typical local engineering salaries because we are looking for an outstanding person who wants a stable, long-term position with our company.

Exceptional candidates with advanced technical capabilities such as Civil 3D/TIN surface modeling may be considered at a higher rate.

13th-month pay is provided.

Long-Term Opportunity

We are not looking for someone to complete a temporary project.

Our goal is to find an engineer who becomes an important long-term member of TEC's production team and eventually becomes capable of performing virtually every step necessary to convert our field information into a substantially complete engineering report.

Final engineering analysis, conclusions, recommendations, approval, sealing, and issuance of reports remain the responsibility of TEC's licensed professional engineer.
