JOB OVERVIEW

Hi! I'm Cody. I've finished a full draft of my nonfiction book and I'm looking for an experienced nonfiction book editor to do an editorial assessment (also called a manuscript critique or manuscript evaluation) before my next round of revisions.

WHAT THE JOB IS
You'll read the whole manuscript once and write me an editorial letter that tells me honestly what's working, what isn't, and what to fix first. This is a big-picture review, not a line edit or proofread, so no tracked changes are needed inside the manuscript.

YOUR EDITORIAL LETTER SHOULD COVER
- Your overall impression, who the book is for, and where it fits in the market
- The core argument: is the main idea clear, convincing and worth a whole book?
- Structure: does the chapter order build the argument, and which chapters drag, repeat, or are missing?
- Evidence and examples: are claims backed up, and are the stories and examples doing their job?
- Clarity and voice: is it easy to follow, and is the tone right for the reader?
- Reader takeaway: will readers know what to do or think differently after finishing?
- Your top 3-5 revision priorities, ranked, with specific examples and chapter/page references

DELIVERABLES
- An editorial letter of roughly 5-15 pages (Google Doc or Word)
- A 30-45 minute video call after I've read it, to go over my questions
- Turnaround: about 3 weeks from receiving the manuscript

MUST HAVE
- Proven experience doing manuscript assessments or developmental edits on full-length nonfiction books
- Excellent written English and a clear, specific, constructive feedback style
- A solid understanding of how a nonfiction book builds and supports its argument
- Discretion: you'll sign an NDA and must not put the manuscript into AI tools

NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with self-help, business, or personal-development books
- A publishing background, or a degree in English, literature or journalism
- Experience working with self-published / Amazon KDP authors

This is a one-time, fixed-price project, fully remote, with flexible hours (roughly 10 hours a week over about 3 weeks). If it goes well there may be follow-up work (a developmental edit or copyedit).
