JOB OVERVIEW

Philippine Attorney - U.S. Legal Support (Part-Time)

Company: The Brown Law Firm
Location: Remote - Philippines
Position: Part-Time Independent Contractor
Compensation: $9-$15 USD per hour, depending on experience
Hours: Approximately 10-20 hours per week. Some overlap with U.S. Central Time business hours is required for meetings and client communication. Remaining work may be completed asynchronously.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Brown Law Firm is a growing Texas-based law practice seeking an experienced Philippine legal professional to join our team.

Our practice includes consumer and business bankruptcy, debt settlement, contract review, and related legal matters.

We are looking for someone with exceptional legal writing, research, analytical, and client communication skills.

This is not a basic virtual assistant or administrative position.

You will work directly with our attorney and legal support staff to prepare legal documents, conduct research, communicate with clients, and help move matters forward.

We need someone who can take an assignment, understand the objective, identify missing information, and produce accurate, polished work for attorney review.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

LEGAL DRAFTING AND RESEARCH

- Draft motions, pleadings, responses, proposed orders, contracts, settlement agreements, demand letters, and legal correspondence.
- Conduct legal research and prepare concise summaries for attorney review.
- Verify legal citations, facts, and supporting documentation.
- Identify inconsistencies, procedural issues, and missing information.
- Revise documents based on attorney feedback.

CLIENT COMMUNICATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT

- Communicate directly with clients by phone, email, and video conference.
- Gather information, request documents, and clarify case details.
- Provide case updates and relay attorney-approved information and instructions.
- Track deadlines, manage assigned tasks, and maintain accurate case notes.
- Escalate questions requiring legal advice or attorney judgment.

BANKRUPTCY SUPPORT

- Assist with consumer and business bankruptcy matters, including Chapters 7 and 13.
- Prepare draft petitions, schedules, statements, motions, and related documents.
- Review financial records, creditor information, and supporting documentation.
- Research bankruptcy statutes, procedural requirements, local rules, and applicable case law.
- Monitor court dockets and identify deadlines and deficiencies.

CONTRACT REVIEW AND DEBT SETTLEMENT

- Review contracts and identify relevant provisions and potential issues for attorney consideration.
- Prepare contract summaries, revisions, and redlined documents.
- Draft settlement proposals, agreements, and correspondence.
- Communicate with creditors within attorney-approved parameters.
- Track offers, deadlines, and settlement documentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Law degree from a recognized Philippine law school.
- At least 2 years of substantial legal drafting or litigation-support experience.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated experience preparing complex legal documents.
- Professional and confident client communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PDF software, and online legal research.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate remotely.
- Reliable computer, internet connection, and private workspace.

STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Admission to the Philippine Bar.
- Previous experience supporting a U.S. law firm.
- Familiarity with U.S. bankruptcy, contract law, debt settlement, or civil litigation.
- Experience drafting motions, agreements, and court documents.
- Familiarity with PACER, CM/ECF, and legal case management software.

WHAT WE VALUE

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work.

You should be able to produce complete, organized drafts rather than documents requiring extensive rewriting.

You should recognize missing information, ask thoughtful questions, communicate proactively, and take pride in producing accurate work.

We value accountability, initiative, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.

IMPORTANT: SCOPE OF THE POSITION

This is a supervised legal-support role with a U.S. law firm.

You will communicate directly with clients and third parties, conduct legal research, draft documents, and coordinate matters under the direction of our U.S.-licensed attorney.

You will not independently practice law in the United States, provide independent U.S. legal advice, establish attorney-client relationships, or represent clients before U.S. courts.

The supervising attorney retains responsibility for legal advice, strategy, substantive decisions, and approval of legal work.

HOW TO APPLY

Please apply through OnlineJobs.ph and provide the following:

- Your resume or CV.
- Your Philippine law degree and Bar admission status.
- A brief description of your legal drafting experience, including the types of documents you have prepared.
- Details of any experience working with U.S. law firms.
- Your expected hourly rate in USD and availability during U.S. Central Time business hours.

Please also answer these three questions:

QUESTION 1:
What types of legal documents have you personally drafted from initial instructions rather than simply editing an existing template?

QUESTION 2:
Describe a situation where you discovered an error, missing information, or legal issue while preparing a document. How did you handle it?

QUESTION 3:
A client asks you for a recommendation about their legal options, but the supervising attorney has not yet reviewed the matter. How would you respond?

Include the word PRECISION in the subject line of your application.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a compensated drafting assessment using a hypothetical case, followed by an interview.

We look forward to hearing from qualified candidates.
