We are a growing U.S.-based tax and accounting firm looking for an experienced **Bookkeeper / US Tax Preparer** in the Philippines to join our team long-term.
This is primarily a bookkeeping position. During tax season, we would also like this person to assist our tax team with preparation of U.S. individual and business tax returns.
We are looking for someone who already has experience working with U.S. accounting or tax firms and can work independently without extensive training.
**Schedule and Pay**
Approximately 20 hours per week to start, with the potential to grow into a full-time position for the right person as our firm grows. Hours may also increase during U.S. tax season.
$12–$15 USD per hour depending on experience.
We are looking for someone interested in building a long-term position with our firm.
Some overlap with U.S. Mountain Time business hours will be needed for team communication,
**Bookkeeping Responsibilities**
You will manage bookkeeping for multiple U.S. small-business clients using QuickBooks Online.
Your work will include categorizing transactions, reconciling bank and credit card accounts, reviewing balance-sheet accounts, preparing and reviewing monthly profit-and-loss and balance-sheet reports, recording payroll and other journal entries, cleaning up existing books, researching discrepancies, and identifying items that need additional client information.
We want someone who understands accounting, not someone who simply categorizes transactions from the bank feed.
You should be comfortable taking responsibility for a client's books from beginning to month-end completion.
**Tax Preparation Responsibilities**
During tax season, you will assist our tax team with U.S. tax return preparation.
Experience preparing Forms 1040, 1120-S and 1065 is strongly preferred.
You may receive a client's prior-year return, current-year tax documents and completed bookkeeping and be expected to prepare as much of the return as possible before sending it to our U.S. tax team for review.
Experience with business returns, rental properties, Schedule C businesses, K-1s and real estate clients is a major plus.
We currently use ProSeries for tax preparation. Experience with ProSeries is preferred, but experience with Drake, Lacerte, ProConnect, UltraTax or similar U.S. tax software is acceptable.
**What We Are Looking For**
You should have at least 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience and substantial experience with QuickBooks Online.
Experience working directly with U.S. businesses or U.S. accounting firms is required.
Previous U.S. tax preparation experience is strongly preferred. We are particularly interested in candidates who have actually prepared U.S. tax returns rather than only organizing documents or performing data entry.
You should understand bank and credit-card reconciliations, general ledger accounting, adjusting journal entries, balance-sheet reconciliations and month-end bookkeeping.
Strong written English and communication skills are important.
You should also be comfortable researching an accounting issue, identifying something that does not make sense and asking questions rather than simply completing a task incorrectly.
Experience with TaxDome is a plus.
