(Part-time fixed schedule)
We are looking for a Financial Controller who owns the numbers the director runs the group on — accurate entity-level and consolidated management reporting, cash flow visibility, and the financial controls that prevent reporting errors the group has experienced before, chief among them strict intercompany entity separation and daily reconciliation discipline, executed by a full-time Bookkeeper working under this role's review.
As acquisitions are completed, the Controller leads the financial integration of each new business. External tax and compliance sit with the group's advisors — this role is the internal finance leader who keeps the books decision-ready between them.
The engagement begins part-time (20 hours/week) and is designed to move to full-time within three months based on performance, growing with the group.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Management Reporting
Prepare monthly management reports — P&L and balance sheet per entity, plus consolidated group view
Provide clear commentary on movements, variances and trends the director can act on
Build and maintain cashflow forecasts across the group
Own month-end close — journals, accruals, reconciliation sign-off and reporting deadlines
Present numbers and recommendations directly to the director
Controls, Reconciliation Oversight & Entity Separation
Review the Bookkeeper's daily reconciliations and month-end workpapers
Enforce strict intercompany separation — correct entity allocation, intercompany loan accounts reconciled
Design and maintain controls that prevent recurrence of past reporting errors
Set coding standards and charts of accounts applied consistently across entities
Direct, coach and quality-assure the Bookkeeper's work
Acquisitions & Advisor Coordination
Lead financial integration of acquired businesses — opening balances, systems migration and clean-up
Support acquisition due diligence with financial analysis as directed
Liaise with the group's external tax and compliance advisors and deliver what they need, on time
Improve finance systems and processes as the group scales
Provide ad hoc analysis for growth and investment decisions
Requirements
Qualified accountant (degree essential; CPA, CA or equivalent strongly preferred)
Proven financial control or senior accountant experience across multiple entities
Strong management reporting and consolidation skills with clear written commentary
Demonstrated ability to design controls, review others' work and enforce standards
Advanced Excel including cashflow modelling
Confident, direct communicator able to challenge and advise a business owner
Comfortable in a fast-moving, acquisition-driven environment
Desirable
Experience integrating acquired businesses or post-acquisition finance clean-ups
Facilities management, trades or services industry exposure
Experience managing offshore or remote finance staff
Familiarity with Australian tax and compliance workflows
Candidates should expect to engage with the director's 30/60/90-day plan and the group's past operational challenges at interview.
