Shopify & WordPress

Second Screen Digital is seeking a highly skilled Senior Full-Stack Web Developer with deep experience building, maintaining, and optimizing websites on both Shopify and WordPress. This is not a page-builder-only position. We need a true developer who can confidently handle complex front-end work, back-end development, custom functionality, third-party integrations, performance optimization, and technical troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical ability with excellent attention to detail and understands how development decisions affect user experience, conversion rates, SEO, accessibility, and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain custom Shopify and WordPress websites.
Build responsive, pixel-accurate pages from Figma or other design files.
Create and customize Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Shopify’s APIs.
Develop custom WordPress themes, templates, plugins, and functionality using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Implement complex e-commerce features, including subscriptions, product bundles, upsells, custom checkout experiences, and promotional functionality.
Integrate websites with third-party platforms, APIs, payment systems, CRM tools, email platforms, analytics tools, and marketing applications.
Troubleshoot and resolve front-end, back-end, hosting, database, integration, and cross-browser issues.
Improve Core Web Vitals, page speed, mobile performance, technical SEO, and accessibility.
Maintain clean, secure, scalable, and well-documented code.
Manage development, staging, testing, deployment, and quality-assurance processes.
Conduct technical website audits and recommend practical solutions.
Collaborate with designers, marketers, project managers, and account managers.
Estimate development timelines accurately and communicate potential delays or technical limitations early.
Manage multiple client projects while maintaining a consistently high standard of work.
Provide ongoing website maintenance, security updates, backups, and technical support.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of professional full-stack web development experience.
Advanced experience developing for both Shopify and WordPress.
Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
Advanced knowledge of Shopify Liquid, theme architecture, metafields, sections, templates, and Shopify APIs.
Experience developing custom Shopify themes and functionality beyond prebuilt themes and applications.
Advanced knowledge of WordPress theme and plugin development.
Experience working with WooCommerce and custom post types.
Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, AJAX, JSON, and third-party integrations.
Experience with Git, version control, staging environments, deployment workflows, and code reviews.
Strong knowledge of responsive development and cross-browser compatibility.
Demonstrated ability to improve site speed, Core Web Vitals, and overall technical performance.
Working knowledge of technical SEO, analytics implementation, accessibility standards, and conversion-rate optimization.
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across the full technology stack.
Ability to write organized, maintainable, and well-documented code.
Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to thoroughly test work before deployment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a digital marketing agency or managing multiple client websites.
Experience with Shopify Plus and checkout extensibility.
Experience developing custom Shopify applications.
Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or Next.js.
Experience with popular WordPress tools such as Advanced Custom Fields, Elementor, Gutenberg, WP Engine, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with Klaviyo, Recharge, Yotpo, GA4, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, and other e-commerce marketing tools.
Experience with cloud hosting, DNS management, CDNs, Cloudflare, and server administration.
Understanding of e-commerce analytics, attribution, and tracking implementation.

About You

You are a technically advanced developer who takes ownership of your work from initial planning through deployment and post-launch support. You do not rely exclusively on themes, plugins, or page builders to solve every problem. You understand when an existing tool is appropriate and when custom development is the better solution.

You are proactive, dependable, and comfortable explaining technical concepts to nontechnical team members. Most importantly, you care about the quality of the final product—not simply whether the code technically works.
