JOB OVERVIEW

EchoVerse Collective - Research Editor & Fact-Checker

We build agents for humans. EchoVerse Collective is an AI-native media, content and intelligence company. Our flagship publication is Dispatches. You can read it at ---------- .

Dispatches uses AI agents to research, challenge and draft public-interest articles. We are hiring an experienced Research Editor to make the final human decision before an article is published, and to help the system learn from what you find.

You will check the evidence, challenge the argument and improve the writing. You will have the authority to approve, return, reject or escalate an article. That responsibility matters more than getting another piece out of the door.

THE WORK

- Verify material claims against credible primary evidence and high-quality secondary sources. Check that citations support the claims being made.
- Assess accuracy, context and fairness. Make uncertainty clear and distinguish fact, analysis and opinion.
- Identify missing perspectives and credible counterarguments without giving unsupported claims equal weight.
- Challenge weak sourcing, misleading framing, unsupported certainty and sensationalism.
- Edit for structure, clarity, tone and natural British English, preserving a distinctive voice where it serves the reader.
- Identify legal, ethical, reputational or safeguarding concerns and escalate issues that require specialist judgement.
- Make and record a clear publishing decision, with concise reasons and specific changes where needed.
- Spot recurring weaknesses and turn them into practical feedback on prompts, research methods, source selection, evaluation criteria and editorial workflows.
- Help maintain editorial standards as Dispatches expands its coverage.

YOUR EDITORIAL AUTHORITY

You are the final human publishing approver. You can approve an article, return it with required changes, reject it, or escalate it for specialist or senior review. You must have the evidence, context and time needed to make that decision.

No publishing target overrides accuracy, fairness or source integrity. Silence never counts as approval. Every approval must be attributable to a named human editor.

YOU WILL FIT IF

- You have relevant experience in editing, journalism, fact-checking, research, policy or another profession where evidence and judgement are central.
- You write excellent English and can improve a piece without flattening its voice.
- You can find and interpret primary evidence, spot flawed reasoning, and recognise when a conclusion goes beyond its sources.
- You follow current affairs and are curious about technology, business, politics, science, culture and social trends.
- You are comfortable investigating unfamiliar subjects and admitting when you need expert input. Nobody is expected to know every subject in advance.
- You can stop publication when the evidence is not strong enough, and explain why clearly and constructively.
- You are comfortable with AI-assisted research and writing, while checking outputs independently. Fluency is not evidence.
- You work reliably from written briefs, communicate what is complete and what remains unresolved, and never report a result you have not verified.

Tell us if you have experience in investigations, verification, open-source research, media law, responsible reporting, editorial standards or quality-assurance processes. These are useful additions; sound research and editorial judgement are the core requirements.

HOW WE WILL KNOW IT IS WORKING

Material errors are caught before publication. Published work is accurate, well sourced, fair and clear. Decisions are consistent and documented, turnaround is dependable, and recurring weaknesses decrease because your feedback helps prevent them. We assess the quality of your judgement as well as delivery.

DETAILS AND PACKAGE

- Full-time, fully remote, Philippines. Independent contractor with EchoVerse Collective Limited, with monthly invoicing.
- Base salary: negotiable, depending on relevant experience and editorial judgement. Please include your expected monthly base salary in PHP. The allowances below are additional to base pay.
- Required publishing window: 03:00-10:00 UK local time on your agreed working days. That is 10:00-17:00 in the Philippines during British Summer Time, and 11:00-18:00 during UK winter time. Working days, total weekly hours and cover arrangements are agreed before the paid trial.
- 13th-month bonus.
- PHP 10,000 monthly family fund, paid on top of base salary, with no receipts required.
- PHP 4,200 monthly private healthcare allowance to help fund cover for you and your family.
- 15 days of paid leave each year.
- 20% of paid working time protected for learning, with a PHP 30,000 annual learning budget. Learning time is scheduled alongside editorial review responsibilities and agreed cover.
- Company-funded equipment, tools and AI subscriptions needed for the role, with the setup agreed before you start.
- Base salary reviews at six and twelve months. The full package and trial terms will be set out in your engagement letter before you start.

HOW TO APPLY - two things, both required

Apply through OnlineJobs.ph, with your answers in the application message and links to your work. Check that we can open the links.

1. Two or three examples of research, editing or fact-checking work. For each, explain your contribution and what it demonstrates. A short explanation of your relevant experience is enough; select the work you can discuss in detail.
2. One concrete example of a claim or article you challenged. What looked wrong or incomplete, which evidence did you check, and what did you d ---------- ? Explain any uncertainty that remained. A few hundred words is plenty.

Also include your expected monthly base salary in PHP, availability to start and ability to meet the working pattern above.

Subject line: Dispatches editor - [your name]

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Shortlisted candidates complete a paid editorial work sample: review an AI-produced article, its sources and its internal challenge notes, then explain whether it should be approved, revised, rejected or escalated. We assess judgement, evidence and clarity, not speed alone. The scope and fee are agreed before you start, and everyone we ask to complete the sample is paid on delivery, whether or not they are hired.

That is followed by an interview about your decisions and a paid trial reviewing a small, varied batch of articles before a longer commitment. Review volumes, publication deadlines and escalation arrangements are agreed during the trial so that the workload allows meaningful checking. Trial terms and pay are agreed in advance. Only work that passes the normal editorial approval process can be published.
