JOB OVERVIEW

Baie Botanique is a UK vegan skincare and mineral suncare brand. We are looking for a capable, reliable part-time Shopify Web Designer / Developer who can take a practical brief—such as “I want this section to look or behave like this”—and implement the solution without the founder having to work out the technical steps first.

This is a hands-on implementation and troubleshooting role. You should be comfortable working independently within an established Shopify store while keeping the brand presentation polished and consistent.

Responsibilities

• Build and edit Shopify pages and sections, including work in PageFly.
• Build or adapt custom Shopify sections and templates using Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Plan and implement Shopify theme upgrades or migrations using a duplicate/staging theme. Preserve required apps, tracking, settings, content and custom functionality; test the new theme thoroughly; and maintain a safe rollback route before publication.
• Implement layout, styling and functionality changes using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Fix spacing, alignment, typography, responsive-layout and mobile-display issues.
• Configure and troubleshoot Shopify apps, including upsells, sticky add-to-cart behaviour and related customer-experience features.
• Build and improve landing pages and product-page sections.
• Identify practical UX and conversion-rate improvements and implement approved changes.
• Take hands-on responsibility for diagnosing and fixing Shopify website-speed and performance issues—not simply producing an audit. Use tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse to identify problems caused by themes, apps, scripts, images, fonts and page-builder content; implement approved fixes safely; and record measurable before-and-after results. Clearly escalate anything that genuinely requires an app provider or more specialised development.
• Test work carefully across desktop and mobile before marking it complete.
• Diagnose conflicts between themes, page builders, custom code and third-party apps.
• Keep a clear record of changes and explain what was changed, why and how it was tested.
• Follow tasks through to a verified result rather than stopping after the first attempted fix.

Examples of the work

Recent tasks have included PageFly edits, sticky add-to-cart behaviour, synchronising product variants between page elements, Selleasy upsell layout changes, mobile optimisation, CSS spacing and styling fixes, app configuration, promotional landing pages and general Shopify troubleshooting. Future projects may include moving the store to an updated theme and developing custom sections or functionality.

Essential experience

• Strong practical Shopify experience.
• Confident PageFly experience.
• Strong HTML and CSS, practical JavaScript, and working knowledge of Shopify Liquid and Online Store 2.0 theme architecture.
• Proven experience upgrading, migrating or substantially customising Shopify themes without disrupting live-store functionality.
• Experience configuring and resolving issues with Shopify apps.
• Proven hands-on experience fixing Shopify performance and page-speed issues, with an understanding of Core Web Vitals. You must be able to show changes you personally implemented and the measurable results.
• Good responsive-design judgement and attention to mobile usability.
• A good eye for polished e-commerce design, UX and conversion.
• Clear written English, careful testing and dependable follow-through.
• Ability to work from outcomes and briefs rather than requiring detailed technical instructions for every task.

Hours and pay

This is a part-time role with 5 guaranteed hours per week initially. Some weeks may require 10 or more hours when larger pages, launches or technical projects are underway. Additional hours will be agreed in advance.

Pay is US$7 per hour initially. Some weekday availability and overlap with UK working hours is required.

3. Give a specific example of a Shopify speed or performance problem you diagnosed and improved. What caused it, what did you change, which tools did you use, and what were the measurable before-and-after results?
4. If a sticky add-to-cart bar did not stay synchronised with the main product variant selector, how would you investigate the problem?
5. What hours are you available, what UK-hours overlap can you offer, and when could you start?
