JOB OVERVIEW

Mechanical Engineer – Fabrication & Design About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in fabrication design and engineering drawings. The ideal candidate should be highly capable of interpreting and creating detailed fabrication drawings, understanding welding requirements, and translating engineering concepts into practical, manufacturable designs.
This role will work closely with the fabrication and project teams to ensure designs are accurate, practical, and suitable for manufacturing. Strong hands-on knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is essential.

Key Responsibilities
• Create and develop detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Read, interpret, and understand engineering, fabrication, assembly, and welding drawings.
• Develop practical designs for fabricated components and assemblies.
• Ensure drawings include accurate dimensions, tolerances, materials, specifications, and fabrication
details.
• Apply knowledge of welding, weld symbols, joints, and fabrication methods when preparing and reviewing drawings.
• Review designs to ensure they are suitable for fabrication, assembly, and installation.
• Work closely with fabricators and engineers to resolve design and fabrication issues.
• Modify and improve existing designs based on fabrication requirements or project changes.
• Prepare and review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and assembly drawings. •
Perform drawing checks to identify dimensional, structural, or fabrication-related issues before
production.
• Coordinate with suppliers and fabrication teams when clarification or technical information is required.
• Assist with material take-offs, fabrication requirements, and technical documentation.
• Use Navisworks or similar software to review models and identify potential clashes or design issues
where required.
• Ensure all drawings and technical documents meet project and client requirements.

Key Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Strong experience in mechanical fabrication and design.
• Proven ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
• Good understanding of welding processes, weld symbols, joints, and fabrication methods.
• Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Experience creating detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Understanding of materials, tolerances, dimensions, and practical fabrication methods. 1
• Ability to visualize 3D components and translate them into accurate 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to identify design issues and recommend practical fabrication solutions.
• Experience working directly with fabricators, welders, production teams, or manufacturing
environments is highly preferred. Preferred Skills
• Experience with Navisworks.
• Knowledge of CNC fabrication, nesting, or cutting processes.
• Experience with CNCAD/AutoNest or similar nesting software.
• Experience with structural steel, wear plates, fabricated components, or mining-related equipment is
an advantage.
• Experience preparing ITPs, inspection documentation, and final technical documentation is an
advantage.
• Experience working with ERP systems or engineering project management systems is a plus.

What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who is hands-on and fabrication-focused, not purely a design or office based engineer. You should be comfortable looking at a drawing and understanding how the component will actually be fabricated, welded, assembled, and finished.

You should be able to:
• Read and understand fabrication and welding drawings.
• Create detailed and accurate fabrication drawings.
• Understand welding symbols and fabrication requirements
• Use Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD confidently.
• Identify whether a design is practical and manufacturable.
• Communicate effectively with fabricators, welders, engineers, and project teams.
• Troubleshoot design and fabrication issues and provide practical solutions. 2
