OPERATIONS & AUTOMATION LEAD

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are a US-based residential construction company that is actively scaling and wants to be on the cutting edge of practical AI, automation, and systems integration.

We are seeking a senior Operations & Automation Lead who can both help run day-to-day operations and build the systems that increasingly automate those operations.

This is intentionally a dual-function role:

1. OPERATIONS
Coordinate people, contractors, systems, information, follow-up, exceptions, and day-to-day workflow across the business.

2. AUTOMATION
Build, maintain, and continuously improve advanced AI agents, automations, APIs, integrations, and connected systems.

Operations informs automation, and automation improves operations.

We are not looking for a prompt writer or basic automation specialist. We are looking for someone with top-level, hands-on expertise building sophisticated AI-enabled operating systems.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Architect and maintain advanced multi-agent AI systems
- Design agent roles, delegation, memory, context, permissions, approval gates, and escalation logic
- Build and maintain APIs, webhooks, system integrations, and automated workflows
- Connect AI systems to company files, email, calendars, CRM, project-management tools, financial systems, databases, and other platforms
- Recommend new software and integrations that reduce manual work and improve operations
- Monitor integrations, automations, and agents for failures, errors, and performance issues
- Build evaluation, logging, tracing, retry, fallback, and exception-handling processes
- Coordinate with team members, contractors, vendors, and outside partners
- Follow up on outstanding tasks, decisions, approvals, documents, and dependencies
- Identify stalled work, missed handoffs, bottlenecks, and recurring process failures
- Maintain and improve SOPs, workflows, templates, and operating rules
- Handle operational work and exceptions that AI cannot yet reliably perform
- Continuously identify what should remain human-controlled, what should become AI-assisted, and what can become substantially automated


THE SYSTEM WE WANT TO BUILD TOWARD
We are interested in building an AI operating architecture similar in concept to advanced hierarchical agent organizations: an AI “chief of staff” coordinating functional agents, specialized subordinate agents, persistent organizational context and memory, connected business tools, autonomous monitoring, and defined human approval points.

We are not looking for someone to copy this system literally. We want someone capable of designing the right architecture for our business and continuously improving it.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
You must have expert-level, hands-on experience with:

- Multi-agent AI architecture and orchestration
- Context engineering and persistent memory
- Retrieval systems
- Tool/function calling
- APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and authentication
- Workflow automation
- Databases and structured data
- Systems integration
- Human-in-the-loop approvals
- Monitoring, tracing, evaluation, and failure handling
- Process design and business operations

Experience with tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI/Codex, n8n, Make, Zapier, Python, JavaScript, APIs, CRMs, project-management systems, and databases is valuable.

We care much more about what you have personally built than about a particular software stack.

Strong operations experience is also required. Construction experience is not required, but experience in construction, architecture, engineering, professional services, or another project-based business is a significant advantage.


WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR
This role is not intended for someone whose experience is primarily:

- writing prompts
- creating custom GPTs
- building simple chatbots
- basic Zapier or n8n workflows
- personal-productivity AI use

Those skills may be useful, but they are not sufficient for this role.


COMPENSATION
$15–$22/hour depending on experience and demonstrated capability.

Exceptional candidates with advanced real-world AI-agent architecture, automation engineering, systems integration, and operations leadership experience may be considered at approximately $25/hour.

Performance bonuses and profit sharing will be available to the right candidate based on demonstrated results and contribution as the company scales.

This is a full-time role with substantial overlap with US Central Time.
