JOB OVERVIEW

# U.S. Tax Preparer – Remote

SME Accounting is seeking an experienced **U.S. Tax Preparer** to join our growing U.S.-based accounting firm. We are looking for someone with hands-on U.S. tax preparation experience who is accurate, dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment.

## Responsibilities

* Prepare U.S. federal and state tax returns
* Prepare **Form 1040 – Individual Tax Returns**
* Prepare **Form 1065 – Partnership Tax Returns**
* Prepare **Forms 1120-S and 1120 – Business Tax Returns**
* Enter and review W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, and other tax documents
* Prepare depreciation schedules and supporting tax workpapers
* Review client financial statements and trial balances for tax preparation
* Identify missing information and communicate open items to the team
* Assist with estimated tax calculations
* Assist with Forms 1099 and other annual compliance filings
* Maintain organized and complete tax workpapers
* Complete assigned returns accurately and within established deadlines

## Requirements

* **2+ years of U.S. tax preparation experience preferred**
* Experience preparing **1040, 1065, 1120-S, and/or 1120 tax returns**
* Understanding of basic U.S. federal tax concepts
* Strong accounting fundamentals
* Excellent attention to detail
* Ability to follow established procedures and checklists
* Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
* Strong written and verbal English communication skills
* Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions

## Preferred Experience

* **Drake Tax** experience
* QuickBooks Online experience
* Experience working for a U.S. CPA or accounting firm
* Experience preparing both individual and business returns
* Multi-state tax return experience

## Compensation

**Starting at $800 USD per month, with higher compensation available based on experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated U.S. tax preparation skills.**

There is opportunity for increased responsibility and compensation as you develop within the firm.
