JOB OVERVIEW

Engineering Project Desk is seeking a part-time remote Telecommunications / Electrical Design Engineer who can independently investigate engineering problems, evaluate equipment upgrades, propose defensible solutions, and produce clear drawings and technical work packages for review.

HOURS AND COMPENSATION
Approximately 15–20 hours per week. Initial target rate: USD $6–$8/hour, based on demonstrated capability. Higher compensation may be considered after proven performance. Remote work with agreed deadlines and scheduled coordination.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Analyze existing conditions and integration requirements using sanitized drawings, technical notes, and public equipment manuals.
• Research and compare technical solutions; document calculations, assumptions, alternatives, risks, and recommendations.
• Develop AutoCAD drawings, wiring/interconnection diagrams, equipment layouts, revisions, and PDF deliverables.
• Support telecommunications, radio communications, IP networking, audio/control interfaces, and DC power integration.
• Prepare bills of materials and technical work packages covering scope, removal/installation, wiring, configuration requirements, testing, acceptance criteria, and contingency steps.
• Cite technical sources by document title, revision, and page/section; reconcile drawings, BOMs, and written instructions.
• Flag missing information as TBD / ENGINEER TO CONFIRM. Never invent pinouts, ratings, settings, or design requirements.
• Maintain organized Google Drive project files, revision records, time reports, and QA/QC responses.

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
• Electrical, electronics, telecommunications, or closely related engineering education and relevant practical design experience.
• Independent technical problem-solving and systems integration experience.
• Strong AutoCAD capability and ability to read schematics, manuals, and specifications.
• Clear written English and well-organized engineering documentation.
• Ability to explain and defend your own calculations, design choices, and deliverables during live discussion.
• Reliable remote availability for approximately 15–20 hours/week.

SANITIZED PROJECT WORKFLOW
Work uses fictional or sanitized project information and approved references. Follow confidentiality, access, and revision-control requirements. Do not upload project material to unapproved services or subcontract the work. Deliverables are drafts subject to owner technical review and approval.

SELECTION PROCESS
1. Initial application and portfolio screening.
2. First technical engineering test using a fictional/sanitized problem.
3. Additional progressively harder technical tests for applicants who advance, to assess engineering judgment, integration, calculations, drawings, and work-package quality.
4. Live technical verification/interview: explain your submission and respond to a changed requirement.
5. Paid finalist trial before a hiring decision, with scope, rate, and time limit agreed in advance.
Only shortlisted applicants advance. Assessment instructions and time expectations will be provided at each stage. Submit your own work and disclose any tools or assistance used; you must understand and explain every technical conclusion.

PROBATION AFTER HIRE
The probation period is 3 months / 90 days, with formal review gates at Day 30, Day 60, and Day 90. Reviews assess technical accuracy, independent problem-solving, research/source quality, drawing and work-package quality, communication, productivity, and confidentiality. The final probation decision is at Day 90. Access remains limited to approved sanitized materials throughout.
