We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented, and experienced Solar Designer to join our `Ohana and support our solar operations team in a fully remote environment.

Position Summary

The Solar Designer is responsible for creating accurate, high-quality residential solar PV system designs, plans, layouts, and related project documentation.

This position works closely with the Director of Operations – Solar and Quality Control Manager to ensure all designs meet project requirements, company standards, applicable codes, and quality expectations.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of residential solar design, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently while maintaining clear and consistent communication with the team.

Key Responsibilities
Create and revise residential solar PV system designs and project plans.
Review site data, measurements, photos, project details, and customer requirements.
Develop accurate solar, electrical, and PV layouts based on project specifications.
Prepare and update single-line diagrams and required design documentation.
Verify system sizing, equipment specifications, placement, and configuration.
Review designs for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and code compliance.
Ensure designs meet permitting requirements, applicable standards, and Nexus Hawaii design standards.
Identify and correct missing, inaccurate, or inconsistent project information.
Make revisions based on quality control feedback.
Communicate design questions and potential issues to management.
Maintain organized project files and meet assigned deadlines.
Maintain confidentiality of company and customer information.
Perform other solar design and operational duties as assigned.

Quality Control Responsibilities

The Solar Designer is responsible for maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality before designs are submitted for review or approval.

Conduct thorough self-checks of completed solar designs.
Verify layouts, equipment, measurements, and project information.
Check for errors, inconsistencies, and missing information.
Review electrical and system documentation for accuracy.
Make revisions based on Quality Control feedback.
Follow Nexus Hawaii design standards and established workflows.
Maintain consistency and accuracy across project documentation.
Work with management to improve design quality and efficiency.

PREFERRED Qualifications:
Residential solar design experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of residential solar PV systems and components.
Understanding of basic electrical and solar design concepts.
Ability to read project plans, drawings, and technical documentation.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Comfortable working in a 100% remote/WFH environment.
Proficient with computers and standard business software.
Ability to quickly learn new software, design platforms, and workflows.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

This is a 100% Remote / Work From Home position.

Reliable high-speed internet.
A dependable computer capable of running required solar design and business software.
A suitable and professional home workspace.
Ability to attend virtual meetings and team meetings.
Ability to communicate effectively through email, messaging, and online communication platforms.
Ability to remain productive and responsive during scheduled working hours.
Ability to manage assigned projects independently.
Availability to work according to Hawaii Standard Time (HST).
Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and customer information while working remotely.
Work Schedule

Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Location: 100% Remote / Work From Home

Standard Schedule:
Monday–Friday
7:00 AM – 3:00 PM HST

The final work schedule may be adjusted based on business needs and will be communicated by management.

Employees are expected to be available, responsive, and actively working during scheduled hours.

Reporting Structure

The Solar Designer will report directly to:

Director of Operations – Solar
Quality Control Manager

The position will work closely with the solar operations, design, and quality control teams to ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and according to Nexus Hawaii standards.
