About the Role
We're hiring an English-language News Writer to cover consumer technology, electronics, new product announcements, and industry trends. You'll write short, high-impact news pieces in the Smart Brevity format — fast, clear, and built to be read on a phone. If you love tech and can turn a press release into a clean 300-word story in 20 minutes, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
• Write engaging, concise articles (~300 words) on technology and electronics news, product launches, and industry trends using the Smart Brevity format
• Produce a minimum of 3 articles per hour to meet tight deadlines
• Apply SEO best practices (keyword placement, headline structure, meta descriptions, internal linking) to maximize visibility
• Publish and manage content directly in WordPress
• Fact-check sources and confirm product names, specs, and dates before publishing
Requirements
• Proven expertise in consumer technology and electronics topics, with a strong grasp of industry trends and product announcements
• Exceptional command of written English — clear, polished, error-free, US English spelling and conventions (near-native fluency required)
• Familiarity with the Smart Brevity writing style (short lead, "why it matters," bulleted detail)
• Strong working knowledge of SEO practices
• A portfolio of published work with live links — at minimum 3 articles we can read online (personal site, Contently, Muck Rack, Google Doc of links, or direct URLs)
• Experience with WordPress or a similar CMS
• Reliable high-speed internet and a backup connection/power source
• Ability to work independently, hit deadlines, and hold quality under volume pressure
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience as a news writer, journalist, or content writer covering tech or electronics
• Portfolio weighted toward consumer electronics, gadgets, or general technology coverage
• Bylined work on an established tech publication or brand blog
• Comfortable using AI tools for research and drafting — but able to produce original, human-edited copy
How to Apply
Please reply with the following:
1. Your resume or CV
2. A brief cover letter (under 150 words — treat it as a writing test)
3. A link to your portfolio, plus 3 sample articles as live URLs (PDFs or pasted text will not be considered). If a piece was ghostwritten or behind a paywall, include a screenshot alongside the link.
4. Your rate expectations (per article or per hour) and weekly availability
Applicants who make it past the first round will complete a short paid writing test (2 articles). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Join us and help shape the conversation around cutting-edge technology.
