Company: JAFU Entertainment LLC / The Sync God
Position: Mixing & Mastering QA Tester / Audio Engineer
Type: Part-Time / Project-Based to Start
Remote
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Sync God is a music technology platform designed to help artists, producers, songwriters and composers evaluate and prepare their music for sync licensing opportunities in television, film, advertising, sports, trailers, games and digital media.
We are currently expanding the platform with a new Mixing & Mastering / “Make My Song Sync-Ready” experience.
We are looking for an experienced mixing/mastering engineer with strong critical-listening skills to help test and quality-control this portion of the application before launch.
This is NOT primarily a software-development position.
We need someone who understands professional audio and can evaluate whether the actual audio results and user experience are good enough for professional creators.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Test our mixing and mastering application using multiple genres and different types of source material.
Upload and evaluate stereo mixes, vocals + instrumentals, and multitrack/stem sessions where supported.
Critically compare original vs. processed audio.
Evaluate tonal balance, low end, vocals, dynamics, transients, stereo image, clarity, punch, harshness, distortion, artifacts and overall musicality.
Evaluate mastering results for loudness, dynamics and translation.
Identify situations where processing improves the song, damages the song, or introduces audible artifacts.
Test different processing options/settings and document the results.
Verify that generated/downloaded audio matches what the user selected.
Test WAV/download workflows and technical deliverables.
Help determine whether the mixing/mastering results are commercially acceptable for a paid product.
Identify confusing instructions or controls from the perspective of a musician/producer.
Report bugs and unexpected behavior clearly enough that our technical team/AI development system can reproduce them.
Retest fixes and confirm whether issues have been resolved.
Help us establish a repeatable Audio QA checklist for future releases.
SYNC-SPECIFIC TESTING
Experience with sync licensing is a major plus, but not required if you are an excellent engineer.
We particularly want to evaluate whether processed music remains suitable for professional sync workflows, including:
main mixes
instrumentals
alternate versions
stems
clean/VO-friendly versions where applicable
60/30/15-second cutdowns where applicable
professional WAV delivery
preservation of musical dynamics and editability
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required:
Real mixing and/or mastering experience
Excellent critical-listening skills
Experience working with professional WAV files and stems
Understanding of gain staging, EQ, compression, limiting, stereo imaging and loudness
Ability to recognize clipping, distortion, pumping, phase problems, harshness, poor low-end balance and processing artifacts
Good studio headphones and/or reliable monitoring environment
Ability to communicate clearly in written English
Strong attention to detail
Comfortable testing the same workflow repeatedly
Able to provide organized notes, screenshots and examples when something fails
Strong Plus:
Experience mastering for streaming, broadcast, TV/film or sync
Knowledge of LUFS, true peak, dynamic range and professional delivery formats
Experience testing audio software, plugins, DAWs or SaaS products
Familiarity with AI-assisted mixing/mastering tools
Experience with APIs or web-based audio applications
Knowledge of music licensing/sync deliverables
TO APPLY — PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS
How many years have you been mixing and/or mastering professionally?
What DAW(s) do you use?
What headphones/monitors and audio interface do you use for critical listening?
Please provide 2–3 examples of music you personally mixed or mastered and explain exactly what you did.
Explain the difference between LUFS and true peak in your own words.
If an AI master sounds louder than the original but worse, what would you listen for to determine what went wrong?
What would you check before calling a WAV master professionally deliverable?
Have you ever tested audio software, plugins or web applications? If yes, describe your experience.
Do you have experience with music for TV, film, advertising, games or other sync licensing?
What is your hourly or project-based rate?
IMPORTANT: Start your application with the words “SYNC READY” so we know you read the entire posting.
INITIAL PAID TEST
Final candidates may be given a small paid test assignment using authorized test audio.
You may be asked to evaluate an original track against one or more processed versions and submit a short QA report explaining:
PASS / NEEDS IMPROVEMENT / FAIL
along with what you hear, why it matters, and what should be corrected.
We are looking for someone who can be critical and specific, not someone who simply tells us everything sounds good.
