Packaging Graphic Designer / Prepress Production Designer
Custom Labels, Packaging & Print Production
PricePoint Wholesale is looking for a talented Packaging Graphic Designer / Prepress Production Designer to join our growing custom packaging and printing company.
This is not a typical social-media graphic design position.
We are looking for someone who understands that great design also has to actually work in production.
Our company produces custom labels, stickers, flexible packaging, boxes, and other printed products for consumer brands. Much of our work involves premium packaging with specialty effects including white ink, clear/gloss varnish, holographic materials, layered printing, and detailed die-cut shapes.
We need a designer who can take a project from customer artwork or concept all the way to a clean, organized, production-ready print file.
The Person We're Looking For
You should be someone who is both creative and extremely detail-oriented.
You enjoy designing packaging, but you are also comfortable working with:
Dielines
Bleeds and safe areas
Cut paths
Spot colors
White ink layers
Clear/gloss varnish layers
Holographic and specialty materials
Multiple SKUs and design variations
Linked images
QR codes
Variable-data artwork
Production-ready PDFs and Illustrator files
You should be comfortable opening another designer's file, understanding how it was built, cleaning it up, correcting problems, and preparing it for production.
We especially want someone who understands the difference between making artwork look good on a computer screen and making artwork print correctly on an actual production machine.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing labels and packaging from customer concepts and brand guidelines
Creating new packaging concepts when customers need design assistance
Preparing customer-supplied artwork for production
Setting up artwork on existing dielines
Creating and modifying dielines
Checking dimensions, bleed, resolution, fonts, links, and colors
Creating cut paths
Creating separate print layers for white ink, color, gloss/clear varnish, and specialty effects
Preparing artwork for holographic and clear materials
Creating multiple product/SKU variations from a master design
Preparing QR-code and variable-data artwork
Making customer revisions quickly and accurately
Creating realistic customer mockups when needed
Organizing production artwork so another employee can immediately understand the file
Communicating clearly when customer artwork is incomplete or cannot be produced correctly
Required Software Proficiency
Candidates must be proficient with:
Adobe Illustrator — advanced proficiency required
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Acrobat
Adobe Illustrator is the primary program used in this position. You must be highly comfortable working with:
Packaging dielines
Vector artwork
Linked and embedded images
Spot colors and custom swatches
Layers and naming conventions
Clipping masks
Transparency
Overprint
Cut paths
White ink layers
Clear/gloss varnish layers
Image resolution
CMYK print production
Production-ready PDF files
Complex multi-layer Illustrator files
Experience with Adobe InDesign, RIP software, digital printing, variable-data printing, or wide-format/label production is a major advantage.
Ideal Background
Strong candidates may have experience working for a:
Label printer
Packaging company
Commercial print shop
Sign company
Flexible-packaging company
Cannabis packaging company
Prepress department
Consumer packaged goods design agency
Experience designing packaging for cannabis, food, beverage, cosmetics, supplements, or other retail consumer products is especially valuable.
What Matters Most to Us
Accuracy
A beautiful design with incorrect dimensions, missing bleed, incorrect spot colors, or bad production layers is not acceptable.
Speed
We operate a real production environment with multiple jobs moving through the shop every day. You must be able to work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.
Organization
Files, layers, fonts, links, artwork versions, and customer revisions need to remain organized.
Communication
You need to communicate clearly in English and ask intelligent questions when information is missing.
Reliability
We need someone who can become a dependable part of our daily operation—not someone who disappears in the middle of a project.
Creative Ability
Production knowledge is extremely important, but we also want someone who can create packaging that looks premium, current, and professionally designed.
This Position Is Probably NOT For You If:
Your experience is primarily Canva or social-media graphics
You mostly design logos, flyers, or Instagram posts
You are not highly proficient with Adobe Illustrator
You have never worked with print production
You don't understand bleed, dielines, cut paths, or spot colors
You frequently submit messy Illustrator files
You need detailed instructions for every small task
You struggle managing several projects at once
This Position IS For You If:
You can look at a packaging dieline and immediately understand how the artwork should be built.
You notice when something is 1 mm out of alignment.
You understand why white ink needs its own layer on clear or holographic material.
You keep Illustrator files clean enough that another production person can open them without having to figure out what you did.
And you can still make the package look amazing.
Work Environment
This position can be performed remotely.
Because you will work directly with our production team, you must be available for regular communication during agreed working hours and be comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions quickly.
Consistent availability and dependable internet are required.
How to Apply
Please do not send only a résumé.
We care much more about seeing your actual work.
Please send:
Your résumé or short description of your experience.
A portfolio showing your best labels, packaging, or print-production work.
Examples of actual production files or dieline-based designs, if available.
A short explanation of your experience preparing files for commercial printing.
Your level of experience with Adobe Illustrator from 1–10.
Your experience working with white ink, varnish, spot colors, cut paths, or specialty printing.
Your normal working hours and time zone.
Your desired hourly or monthly compensation.
Include this in your application:
If you were printing a label on clear material and wanted some areas completely opaque while other areas remained transparent, explain how you would prepare the Illustrator file for production.
Applications that do not answer this question may not be considered.
Skills Test
Final candidates may be given a practical design/prepress test using a sample packaging project.
The test may include correcting customer artwork, setting up a dieline, preparing white/clear/cut layers, and delivering a clean production-ready Illustrator file.
We are looking for someone who wants a long-term position and the opportunity to grow with our company.
