Vendor Sourcing Specialist (USA)
Task: Beverage Co-Packer Outreach & Research
Summary
I’m launching a premium sparkling functional beverage (clean caffeine + L-theanine + electrolytes, 12oz can) and need someone to call/contact a list of beverage manufacturers and co-packers, ask a defined set of questions, and log the answers in a shared tracker. Some companies have already been contacted by email — this role is about getting the missing information by phone (or follow-up email if a call isn’t possible), plus doing first-touch outreach to a second list of manufacturers we haven’t contacted yet.
This is not a sales or persuasion role. You’re gathering factual information: capabilities, pricing, minimums, samples, and compliance documentation. Most of the companies are in CA and need to be contacted between 9am - 5pm PST, so please only apply if the time difference is not a problem.
Structure: Paid Trial, Then Full Job
Phase 1 (trial, paid separately): Call the 5 priority companies flagged below, get complete answers, log them in the tracker in the
format specified. I’ll review the quality before assigning the rest.
Phase 2 (if trial goes well): Full remaining list — both follow-up calls and new outreach.
Priority 5 for Phase 1
These are the highest-leverage first calls — a mix of fastest-path-to-sample and one-stop shops that could shortcut needing separate formulation + canning partners:
1. LTBB (Lucky To Be Beverage) — has ready, market-tested stock formulas; fastest path to an actual sample, no formulation wait.
2. MacroCap Labs — vertically integrated (formulation + canning + fulfillment in one facility); could solve the “nobody wants to
formulate” problem in a single vendor.
3. Big Brands — turnkey formulation + co-packing specifically for functional/adaptogen beverages; another one-stop candidate.
4. BevZero — full turnkey concept-to-product, 30+ years in the category; broad, established option.
5. Chapter Foods — not a manufacturer, a matchmaking/consulting service. Worth calling early since a good conversation here could surface better-fit co-packers than cold
What You’re Calling About
A premium sparkling clean-energy + hydration beverage. Manufacturer-facing context, if asked:
12 oz aluminum can
~40–60mg caffeine (prefer clean/natural source like green tea), L-theanine, electrolytes
Zero/very low added sugar, low calorie
Exploring both private-label (their existing stock formula) and semi-custom routes
Two flavors/SKUs planned for initial launch
Early-stage: want a first sample round before committing to volume
Once Stephanie identifies the company, the first ask on that call is to get the
specific contact’s name and direct phone number, same as every other entry.
Information to Get on Every Call
1. Private label or custom only? Do they have existing stock formulas we can taste/sample, or is everything custom-built?
2. MOQ — per SKU, in cans/cases, for both stock and custom (if different)
3. Pricing — indicative per-can cost at initial volume and at scale; any setup/tooling fees
4. Samples — can they send samples, cost (if any), and turnaround time
5. Lead time — production and reorder lead times
6. Formula ownership/exclusivity terms — do we own the formula, or is it licensed/shared
7. Compliance documents (get copies or confirmation these exist):
GFSI audit certificate (SQF Level 2/3, BRCGS, or FSSC 22000)
FDA facility registration number
Product-specific HACCP plan
Most recent third-party food safety audit report (e.g. Silliker, Eurofins, NSF)
8. Warehousing / direct-to-distributor capability — can they ship direct to distributors or do we need our own 3PL
How to Log Results
Update the shared tracker (MVM Manufacturer Tracker) after every call — don’t batch it. (To be provided)
For each company, fill in:
- Status/Latest Action (date + what was discussed)
- MOQ - Pricing/Financial Notes
- Capability/Fit Analysis (your read on whether they’re a real fit)
- The four compliance columns (mark received/confirmed/not available)
I*f a call goes to voi
Notes
Be upfront that this is an early-stage brand exploring options, not placing an order yet — don’t overpromise volume.
If a company says they don’t do private label or the MOQ is clearly incompatible (e.g. 100,000+ units for a first pilot), don’t spend time pushing — log it as disqualified and move on.
Questions during the trial phase: reach out before guessing.
